We are just a week ahead of the launch of OnePlus 7T Pro, the last model from the Shenzen based OEM for 2019. It seems the smartphone fanatics have started to look beyond that to keep the sensations going on.
The infamous leaker Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks), along with CashKaro, has revealed the first renders of OnePlus 8, expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2020. To make the sensation as real as possible, the leaker has claimed the details of the upcoming OnePlus smartphone are based on schematics gathered from a company insider.
OnePlus 8 Leak Details
The first unique feature of OnePlus 8 is going to have is the punch-hole front-facing camera in the 6.5-inch curved display instead of the waterdrop notch displays in OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7T. If that is so, it will be the first OnePlus device to incorporate the punch-hole display.
To refresh our memory, it was Honor View20, launched at the beginning of 2019, which came up with the punch-hole display for the first time in any smartphone. Later we have seen it in Samsung Galaxy A8s by the design name Infinity-O.
We are not sure whether to get excited about OnePlus featuring the punch-hole. That is because, despite being unique, there are many haters of the particular design element.
Smartphone manufacturers have come up with different display technologies until now to provide a bezel-free experience to users and achieve the highest possible screen-to-body ratio in the devices. The punch-hole display is the latest innovation in the design trend.
The critics have tried to bash the punch-hole design element due to the inability of the pixel resolution to cover the black ring around the punch hole camera, leakage of light, and possible distraction while watching full-screen videos.
If OnePlus really incorporates the design element in their next series, we have to see what sort of design refinements the OEM achieves to overcome the drawbacks.
Rear camera setup
On the camera front, the renders suggest OnePlus would drop the round camera design setup of OnePlus 7T and resort back to the vertical line design of OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. There would be three camera lenses as usual, which will be arranged in a vertical module cantered on the back.
The renders also claim the new OnePlus 8 will allow wireless charging, a feature that will come up in a OnePlus device for the first time.
Notably, OnePlus has not been a proponent of wireless charging due to the low charging speed. That was the reason it has not been incorporated in their devices so far. Therefore, if the Chinese OEM really incorporates the idea, it will make it faster just like Xiaomi did with their Mi 9 Pro 5G.
The other details that CashKaro came up with include the phone dimension of 160.2 x 72.9 x 8.1mm (9.3mm, including camera bump) and the smoother edge of the bottom speaker compared with OnePlus 7T.
Only time will tell what the final design of OnePlus 8 will look like. Since there is a long wait involved until the launch, it is quite possible that the design will be changed. Till then, let’s gear up for the OnePlus 7T Pro launch on October 10.
