The Xperia 1 VI is expected to follow the release pattern of its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V, which was launched in May 2023.
Sony’s 2024 Xperia flagship “Xperia 1 VI” render images are leaked by ONLEAKS, considered to be one the most reliable due to its track record with past smartphone leaks. They can be almost considered official taking into account the reputation of ONLEAKS via AndroidHeadlines. The leaked renders offer a detailed look at the device’s design.
The 5K renders of the Xperia 1 VI feature a 6.5-inch display, a triple rear camera setup, a headphone jack, and a dedicated camera shutter button on the side. These details suggest that Sony is maintaining some key features from its previous models while possibly introducing new enhancements or improvements.
From the 5K renders and the video, the Sony Xperia 1 VI’s display, when seen from the front, appears wider than the display of its predecessor. It seems Sony has opted for a different aspect ratio for the Xperia 1 VI, possibly moving away from the 21:9 aspect ratio found in earlier models. The discontinuation of the 21:9 aspect ratio could have implications for how content is displayed on the screen, potentially offering a different viewing experience for users.
The Sony Xperia 1 VI seems to maintain a similar camera setup as its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V, including ultra-wide-angle, wide-angle, and telephoto (periscope type) cameras. The device also retains the dedicated camera shutter button on the side, as shown in the leaked renders. Other features such as the earphone jack and camera button are also present. Additionally, the Xperia 1 VI’s size is reported to be 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.4mm, slightly different from earlier leaked dimensions.
The rumored change in aspect ratio from 21:9 to around 19.5:9 for the Sony Xperia 1 VI would bring it closer to the aspect ratio of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This adjustment could impact the display’s dimensions and how content is displayed on the screen, potentially offering a different visual experience for users compared to previous Xperia models.
Xperia 1 VI might see Sony’s potential departure from a 4K display to a 2K display. This change would be accompanied by a wider aspect ratio, marking a deviation from Sony’s previous design choices. The shift to a 2K display is speculated to be aimed at improving battery life, as maintaining a 4K display can be more power-intensive.
Additionally, the original 21:9 aspect ratio of the Xperia 1 series was intended to enhance the movie-watching experience, as movies are often filmed in this aspect ratio. However, with the prevalence of smartphones featuring aspect ratios around 19.5:9 or 20:9, the 21:9 ratio is becoming less unique.
Sony Xperia users are hoping that they’ll go for longer software support, at least 4 years, thin bezels, an HDR camera setting for normal consumers, a brighter display (manual 1500 nits minimum), a great cooling system (vapor chamber or better) and UFS 4.0.
The Xperia 1 VI’s launch date and price are currently unknown, but given the recent leaks and appearances in accessory listings, the Sony Xperia 2024 lineup is expected soon. It will be interesting to see what Sony has in store for their mid-range or entry-level model in the Xperia lineup. If Mr. Onleaks continues with past patterns, we may indeed see rendered images of the Xperia 10 VI or Xperia ACE IV shortly.
