Xiaomi, a long-known player in the area of consumer tech space, is entering the Electric Vehicle (EV) space with the announcement of Xiaomi SU7. It’s going to be the company’s first-ever car, let alone be EV. This sleek sedan isn’t just about getting from point A to point B; it’s a statement piece, marking Xiaomi’s ambitious stride into the automotive arena.

And judging by the first glimpse of the Xiaomi SU7 shared by Lei Jun, Chief Executive Officer of Xiaomi, this isn’t just another car — it’s a glimpse into the future of seamlessly integrated human-car-home interaction.

Jun unveiled the Xiaomi SU7 not through a flashy press conference, but through a simple yet impactful post on X (formerly Twitter). The post features a photo of the sleek sedan bathed in a cool grey finish, its five-spoke alloy wheels sporting both the Michelin logo and a subtle Mi emblem on the wheel caps. The caption, “Hello, Xiaomi SU7. Welcome to Human x Car x Home,” speaks volumes about the car’s ambition to become the nerve center of a connected ecosystem.

Xiaomi SU7 Specs

The Xiaomi SU7 is an eagerly awaited electric sedan from the tech giant, making its debut in December 2023. Here’s a rundown of its expected (mind you, company’s yet to speak) key specifications:

Quite a bit technical, but that’s what the geeks would want. So, let’s begin with the two powertrain options:

  • All-wheel drive: Dual electric motors with a combined output of 495 kW (664 hp), 0-100 km/h in under 4 seconds, top speed of 265 km/h (165 mph).

There are also two battery pack options:

  • 73.6 kWh: CLTC range of 628 km (390 miles) or 668 km (415 miles).
  • 101 kWh: CLTC range of 750 km (466 miles) or 800 km (497 miles).

Xiaomi’s much-anticipated entry into the electric vehicle market is with the Xiaomi SU7. The vehicle is set to offer consumers a choice of three distinct colors, adding a touch of personalization to the driving experience. These color options are Aqua Blue, a serene and refreshing shade reminiscent of clear waters; Mineral Gray, a sophisticated hue that exudes elegance and modernity; and Verdant Green, a vibrant and lively color that connects with nature. What sets Xiaomi SU7 EV apart from other major players?

The automotive world is buzzing with the arrival of the Xiaomi SU7 EV, a sleek sedan marking the tech giant’s electrifying debut. But what sets it apart from established players like Tesla, BMW, and Nissan? Here’s a glimpse into the SU7’s unique selling points:

  1. Tech-Centric Experience: Xiaomi’s DNA is deeply woven into the SU7. Expect a seamless integration with the Xiaomi ecosystem, where your car effortlessly connects with your phone, smart home devices, and wearables. Imagine personalized climate control based on your fitness tracker data or preheating your car remotely from your phone. This interconnectedness elevates the driving experience to a whole new level.
  2. Performance Packed: The SU7 boasts impressive performance figures. The dual-motor AWD variant unleashes 664 hp and rockets from 0 to 100 km/h in under 4 seconds, rivaling the Tesla Model 3 Performance. But it doesn’t stop there. The top-of-the-line trim offers a range of over 800 km on a single charge, surpassing even the long-range Model 3.
  3. Design with a Difference: The SU7’s design language is distinct from the crowd. While retaining a modern and elegant aesthetic, it avoids mimicking the established players. The fastback roofline and panoramic sunroof lend a sporty air, while the minimalist interior with a large central touchscreen exudes a futuristic vibe.
  4. Value Proposition: Xiaomi is known for its aggressive pricing strategy, and the SU7 is expected to follow suit. While the official pricing is yet to be revealed, it’s safe to assume it will be competitive compared to its premium EV rivals. This affordability factor, coupled with the feature-rich package, makes the SU7 a compelling proposition for tech-savvy car enthusiasts.
  5. The New Entrant Advantage: As a newcomer, Xiaomi has the flexibility to break free from traditional automotive conventions. This opens doors for innovation, with the potential to integrate cutting-edge technologies and features that established players might be hesitant to adopt. The SU7 could be a game-changer in terms of in-car technology and user experience.

Availability & Pricing

Xiaomi has revealed plans to hold its inaugural electric vehicle (EV) Xiaomi SU7 unveiling event, titled Stride,” outside of China on December 28. Set to commence at 2:00 pm Beijing time (11:30 am IST), the three-hour session won’t showcase any product launches. Instead, Lei Jun has assured that the spotlight will be on the underlying technology of Xiaomi’s debut electric car. So, there’d be a lot to attend? Although the pricing has largely remained under wraps, Lei Jun suggests that it will “surpass expectations.” We expect Xiaomi SU7 to be priced at around 149,000 Chinese Yuan (~21,000 USD). Rumors also suggest at least three Xiaomi SU7 variants: Xiaomi SU7, Xiaomi SU7 Pro, and Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
