Honor launched MagicOS 8.0 in China at the beginning of 2024, built on the foundation of Android 14. The update introduced the MagicLM on-device large language model, boasting an impressive 7 billion parameters, specifically tailored for the Magic6 flagship devices. The global rollout was announced at the beginning of April and now Honor Magic V2 has started receiving the MagicOS 8.0 build marked by the acronym 8.0.0.101(C431E1R2P210g).
MagicOS 8.0 brings several enhancements and features, including streamlined media editing. Users can now seamlessly edit media content within the MagicOS 8.0 interface, offering a more intuitive editing experience. The other most important issue handled is extended battery life. The MagicOS 8.0 update introduces an eagerly anticipated Ultra Power Saving mode, designed to optimize battery usage and prolong device battery life, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.
Honor Magic V2 – MagicOS 8.0 with Android 14 update issues
However, as with every major software update rollout, there are various challenges and experiences encountered that sometimes become showstoppers for a few. With the Honor Magic V2 upgrading to MagicOS 8.0, below are the few issues that users have highlighted
Gestures and Launcher issue
Users discussed difficulties with gestures not functioning correctly, particularly when using third-party launchers. Suggestions were made to try different launchers, adjust default launcher settings, and utilize gesture navigation apps as potential solutions.
Users have explored options for customizing the stock launcher, such as installing icon packs using apps like Peafowl. Despite various attempts to resolve gesture issues using different methods and applications, users continued to face challenges, suggesting that the underlying problem might be more complex and deeply rooted within the system.
Screen Protector Issue
One user reported a problem with its Magic V2 screen protector, which caused bubbling and a line in the middle of the screen, indicating a physical issue with the device. Few are wondering that the new “multi-window” gesture option called “one swipe to split screen & mini window” is the reason behind the issue. Unfortunately, there is no mechanism to turn it off.
It appears that the users have to wait for some more time before a patch fixing the issues is rolled out. In the meantime, one can check with the technical support for workarounds.
