Xiaomi Mi Band 5 Global Variant To Launch Without NFC & SpO2 Sensor, Unboxing leaks


In its Global Product Launch Event on July 15th, Xiaomi will be unveiling Mi Band 5 in addition to few more ecosystem products. This includes Mi scooter /1s lite /Pro2, Mi TV Stick, Mi Curve Computer display, Mi Vacuum Cleaner, and Essential MI Router to name a few.

Smart Band 5 is the successor of its popular Mi Band 4. It has been already launched in its home market, China, in two variants. These two editions were Mi Band NFC Support and Non-NFC Support and were coded “Kongming” and “Kongming L” respectively.

Techbit, a Portuguese website has got hold of the international review unit of the smart band. It has revealed photos ahead of the launch event. While unboxing it has reported that the global variant of Mi Band 5 will be called Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 5. The brand has adopted the nomenclature similar to its predecessor Mi Smart Band 4. Also, Smart Band 5 is likely to come without NFC, SpO2 sensor, and Alexa voice assistant.

India will also be getting the global edition of Mi Smart Band 5 but it might have added features of SpO2 sensor and Alexa voice assistant. The brand is also planning for the European market launch of Mi Smart Band 5 Pro. Though there are no details on the Pro variant except its code name “Kongming Pro” and NFC support feature.

Mi Smart Band 5 Launch Price

The China version of Mi Smart Band 5 was launched at RMB 189 (₹2,025 approximately) without NFC support. The variant with NFC support was sold at RMB 229 (₹2,500 approximately). Band 5 expected price in India is ₹2,499(€30). The smart band strap color options will be Black, Blue, Pink, Orange, Purple, Yellow, and Green. It had gone on sale on June 18 in China.

Mi Smart Band 5 Specifications

Smart Band 5 has a very identical design to the Mi Band 4 but it has a slightly bigger display. Currently, Mi Band 4 has .95 inch display whereas Smart Band 5 will come with a 1.3-inch display and is visible easily in the light of the sun. The Mi Smart Band 5 will have a magnetic charging system, an improved tracking system, and 11 professional sports mode.

Apart from these, there is a special feature for females too.

The smart band can now monitor menstrual cycles. All you have to do is update the Mi Fit application with data related to period duration and the start date of the last period. The band will be able to forecast the menstrual period, the fertile period and even the best ovulation days.

Another feature that should be talked about is remote camera control of the smartphone. It has been built with XiaoAI assistant support. If you want to take photos on your smartphone remotely, it can be done via Mi Smart Band 5 which functions as remote trigger control via Bluetooth connection.

Smart Band 5 has improved heart rate and sleep monitoring functions in comparison to its predecessor. The new feature list includes breathing exercises, stress level meter, and PAI (Physical Activity Intelligence) score.

The Mi Smart band 5 is available in English and default Chinese language. With the global launch happening, it is expected that Xiaomi will release language support via OTA.
