In order to make the holidays cheerful, Google just announced in its Stadia Twitter handle (@GoogleStadia) that it has started giving away the second set of Buddy Pass to Stadia Founders. The Stadia Founders are those users of Google Stadia who purchased the Stadia hardware kit on a pre-order basis before it hit the stores.
Buddy Pass is allows the Stadia Founders to invite their friends and families to enjoy the free games available for Stadia Pro users for three months. In other words, it is a sales and marketing tool adopted by Google to rev up the user base for Stadia platform.
Google Stadia was launched with a one-time subscription of $130 and an additional $10 per month charge as Stadia Pro subscription to play the games in 4K resolution with HDR using Chromecast Ultra or Chrome web browser. Since there is a three-month trial for Stadia Pro subscription, every Stadia user becomes Stadia Pro subscribers effectively.
Hence, Buddy Pass is allowing the friends and family members of Stadia Founders to get access to the three-month Stadia Pro trial. Once the three months expire, the invited members would need to pay the $10 per month subscription fee or cancel service.
Google launched the first set of Buddy Pass a few days after launching Stadia on November 19. The second set of Buddy Pass is made available now which Stadia Founders can get when an envelope icon appears in the Stadia app on their Android or iOS smartphones. After tapping the envelope icon, users can send the Buddy Pass to their friends by pressing the “Send your Buddy Pass” button. Once the friends redeem the Buddy Pass, the Founder members can enjoy playing games with their invited friends.
In order to redeem the Buddy Pass, the invited friends need to download and install the Stadia app on their smartphones and enter the Buddy Pass code there. After entering the code, they need to create a Stadia account with a Stadia name. After this, they will be able to access the three-months trial of Stadia Pro.
Currently, four games are available for free for Stadia Pro users. They are Destiny 2: The Collection, Samurai Showdown, Farming Simulator 19: Platinum Edition, and Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition. Google Stadia services are available in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, and the United States.
