ROG Phone 2: Asus Unchains the Gaming Tiger
Who cares for the gaming consoles and high-end gaming computers to quench their gaming thirst these days? No worry when you have a powerful mobile gaming brand from Taiwanese maker Asus, the ROG Phone. It is the second version of the gadget that was unveiled in New Delhi today.

To be very specific, Snapdragon 855 Plus is a chipset that offers 15% higher performance in terms of graphics and 4% higher speed in terms of CPU output among all the available platforms.
Asus released the ROG Phone 2 in two variants – the one offers 8GB RAM and 128 GB storage that costs ₹37,999, and the other offers 12 GB RAM and 512 GB storage that costs ₹59,999. The latter version uses UFS 3.0 storage that facilitates super-fast app load times.

The ROG Phone 2 offers a high-end display with a refresh rate of 120 Hz that was seen in the Apple iPad Pro. Presently, there are roughly 125 games in the market that support such a high frame rate. The company claims that the display has less than 1% deviation from true colours. The phone has a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 6.0. The panel also features an optical in-display fingerprint sensor.
As per the company, the phone’s flaunts the ever launched 10-bit panel, which implies a display of over 1.07 billion colours. The rest of the smartphones use 8-bit panels with a display of 16.7 million colours.
The phone is capable of running on Android 9.0 Pie and is available with stock Android UI similar to Asus 6Z. The gaming-optimised ROG UI is also available as an option for the super-fast gaming experience.
Gaming consoles generate a lot of heat but the Taiwanese maker took full care of that. The phone comes with the latest Gamecool 2 3D Vapor Cooling chamber technology along with a heat dissipation plate and a heat transfer vent. The phone also offers an optional Aeroactive cooler, which is an external fan to be attached to the phone’s in-built port.
The phone is supercharged by a high-powered 6,000 mAh battery that enables 30-watt fast charging (priced at Rs. 1,999). The phone also comes with unique Hypercharge technology and the facility of reverse charging by up to 10 watts.
The ROG Phone 2 is capable of taking wonderful snaps. It features the trending 48 megapixels (MP) Sony IMX 586 sensor rear camera that uses Quad-Bayer technology and f/1.79 aperture. The rear camera, in fact, uses dual 48 MP and 13 MP sensors and has a wide-angle lens with a 125-degree view. The phone is also superb in taking selfies due to the 24 MP frontal camera.
There is a pair of air triggers on the phone which can be customised as per the user’s need. The air triggers are considered to be the improved version over the predecessor. There would be an optional sliding touch functionality in the near future.
