Apple Launches Apple TV+ for just ₹99 a month with a 1-year free subscription

Apple today announced that it’s streaming platform will finally be available from November 1, 2019. It also revealed that it would cost just $4.99 per month for the whole family. You can use one account to stream on six different screens. The streaming service will be available in 100+ countries through the Apple TV+ app.

CEO Tim Cook announced that users would get one-year free subscription of streaming service on the purchase of any new Apple device including iPhone and Mac.

The service has brought together celebrities like Steven Spielberg, Jennifer Aniston, Steve Carell, Kumail Nanjiani, J.J. Abrams, Reese Witherspoon, Jason Momoa, Alfre Woodard, Sara Bareilles.

Some of the more awaited shows coming include a morning show drama starring Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston; a Witherspoon-backed comedy based on Curtis Sittenfeld’s “You Think It, I’ll Say It;”. The list also includes a thriller called “Truth Be Told” starring Octavia Spencer; and a revival of “Amazing Stories” exec-produced by Steven Spielberg, and many others.

Even with all these big names and amazing, big list of shows, Apple+ is not seen as a direct competitor to Netflix. The reason for this being that Apple+ will focus more on its original shows. The service is said to be believing in quality and not quantity.

With a significant drop in iPhone sales in the last few years, Apple is now more focused on services like Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade. Last year, Apple said it would spend around a billion dollars acquiring ten shows for the streaming TV service. But it later signed deals with Oprah, Steven Spielberg, and Sesame Workshop, which likely pushed that number much higher. A newer report from the Financial Times in August claimed the figure was now around $6 billion instead.

The price of $4.99 is lower than almost all of its competitors like Netflix ($12.99), Hulu ($5.99), and upcoming Disney+ ($6.99). The one-year free offer gives Apple an even better edge on the competition. In India, Apple TV+ will cost ₹99 a month for whole family.
