Xiaomi has surprised its more than 2-year-old Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro users. After updating the Redmi 7/7S and Mi 10 Pro in December, Xiaomi has started rolling a stable beta of MIUI 12 update for Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones.
The MIUI 12 update is based on Android 9 Pie, disappointing it sounds to many. As per the company’s policy, the device was eligible to receive 2 Android updates and at least 3 major software updates. Unfortunately, its quota of 2 major Android updates is over with the models running on Android Pie.
However, its popular user base is disappointed because the OEM has neglected MIUI updates. Redmi Note 5 Pro continues to run on MIUI 11 despite being worthy of MIUI 12 update. But the company has promised a stable beta rollout. In fact, some units have started receiving the MIUI 12 update. Here are the details!
MIUI 12 update is worth every experience it brings along. It carries a build version of V12.0.2.0.PEIMIXM and is 2.0GB in size. Before you opt for download, it is advisable to take backup.
Recently Mi A3 devices after updating to Android 11 got bricked beyond repair. One thing has to be kept in mind. Xiaomi is rolling stable beta. In other words, Redmi Note 5 Pro update MIUI 12 will not be completely bug-free.
Once the stable beta doesn’t report any critical issues, the stable beta will be rolled out as a stable build. Xiaomi will push updates in a phased manner. If you cannot wait for stable build, a full ROM zipped up is here

It has been almost 2 months that a stable MIUI 12 build was rolled out to limited units of the Redmi Note 5 series globally. However, a wider rollout is pending. While replying to a query, the Xiaomi feedback team has confirmed that the green signal for wider rollout is still awaited from devs. Presumably, some major bugs need to be resolved before a global release happens.
Apart from Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro update MIUI 12, Xiaomi has also released a stable beta for Redmi Note 6 Pro. It comes with a software version V12.0.1.0.PEKMIXM and the size is 2.0GB.
In the meantime a recap for Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, Redmi 6A, and Redmi 6 users. Xiaomi is not rolling out MIUI 12 update for these 4 devices. Xiaomi, on its community update forum, said that there were “compatibility and performance issues” with these 4 due to which it was canceling the plans for an MIUI 12 update. However, there are technical ways as to how one can force install MIUI 12 update manually. Check details here.
