Google’s latest flagship phones- Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, became known for their incredibly tough phone glass after the phone’s initial release. But reports of completely random cracks on the display of these expensive mobiles have left a sour aftertaste among Pixel owners. No phone case or screen protectors are seemingly helping the problem which has effectively riled up a lot of commotion. Read to the end as we shed more light on this particular issue that has brought down the reputation of Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro.

Imagine how bewildered you will be if you left your phone on charge for an hour and came back to find its display screen cracked! Unimaginably painful right? Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro owners are no stranger to this feeling due to this seemingly unsolvable mystery.

Both the phone models are built using Gorilla Glass Victus on the front screen as well as the back glass. Reputed as the toughest phone glass on the market, it is no exaggeration to say that the last phone model anyone would expect to face spontaneous screen cracks is Google’s Pixel 6/6 Pro.

What is screen crack issue on Pixel 6 series?

The highlighted issue soon started to explode after customers who are suffering from such cracks turned to social media platforms to express their disbelief and concern. Spontaneous screen cracks are not the first kind of its problem that smartphones are facing. But if you invested quite a hefty sum of money into a premium device, these types of display problems often lead to a lot of negative reputation.

A vast majority of owners of the phone shared their experiences relating to the random screen cracks their Pixel 6/6 Pro was facing. Many are speculating that the phone chassis is not rigid enough to allow the device to flex while inside pockets. In fact, there are some concerns about the mobile covers applying too much pressure on the curved screens of Google Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. The most confusing aspect of the ongoing problem is that the mobile comes aided with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus. This should definitely help the phone to easily withstand small impacts and bumps.

There were a plethora of issues regarding the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, but most of them were seemingly limited to being software issues. But hardware issues like this result in permanent irreversible damage and is definitely way worse. We have already discussed some major issues with phones here.

Reports of Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro Screen cracks

The problem convinced owners of the Pixel 6 series to report terrible experiences on the Google Support forum and Reddit forums. Many users have also attached images to show the screen cracks on the display. While you might conclude that such cracks are the consequent results of accidental drops or bumps, that is totally not the case here.

Most user reports that flooded such forums indicate that the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro display glass cracked on its own out of the blue. This mostly happened while either the phone was being kept in pockets, or just resting on a tabletop getting charged. Additionally, many customers also complained that the display screen cracked even though they were using the official Pixel 6 series or Spigen phone cases or screen protectors. It is worse than this weird problem is more commonly observed on the higher-end variant, Pixel 6 Pro.

According to Android Police, such issues of random screen cracks are often related to manufacturing defects. They cause pressure to build up in the display screen, eventually leading to its developing cracks. A sudden significant change in the temperature can also result in screen cracks.

Google’s take on Pixel 6/6 Pro screen suffering random cracks:

Since the device is under 1-year warranty, It is suggested to contact Google directly rather than going for the store or partners like T Mobile. Those who have contacted Google support are also clueless about what to do next. The conclusion is that that is no help to repair or replace offered whatsoever. In fact, Google wants the user to pay to repair this defective phone. In spite of confirming that the device has not been dropped Google is not ready to fix it as confirmed by support staff. The usual conversation ends with this

1) The device has undergone “physical damage” aka dropped physically and therefore replacement cannot be claimed.
2) The support doesn’t acknowledge receiving any other Pixel 6 Pro random screen cracks.

The Mountain View giant is yet to make any official statement about this uprising problem in the Pixel 6 series. Initially, most people thought that the screen-cracks were happening due to their own mishandling of the flagship device. But as the number of users reporting the same problem keeps on increasing, Google can not turn a blind eye towards this for too long.

It’s a known issue that users have been facing. It’s generally attributed to cases being too tight or rapid temperature changes

The issue appears widespread with more than 130 users reporting random cracks in the Pixel 6 screen on Google Sheets created by a user who wanted to highlight that the issue is a serious one.

This means that it is indeed a widespread issue and likely a hardware defect. And hence, something that Google should be concerned about, but yet it remains unacknowledged.

In fact, reportedly, Google has already started to investigate the underlying cause behind this issue so Pixel owners can expect some clarity to be unveiled soon. It will be, indeed, very interesting to see if the random out-of-the-blue screen cracks on the flagship mobile phones are happening due to manufacturing problems. In case Google does confirm anything like this, although very unlikely, customers might be looking at a free replacement of the display screen of their Pixel device. However, most chances are that the customers will have to opt for a replacement of their screens on their own.

It goes without saying that Pixel owners are avid Google/Pixel supporters and hope Google provides an adequate/appropriate/timely response regarding the screen crack issue. We will be sure to update you if Google releases any statement regarding the screen-crack issues on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. Meanwhile, you can share your own experience, views on the problem and suggest any solution in the comments!
