Apex Legends, a free-to-play Battle Royale game has released a new Season 13 on 11th May. Post the update many players are encountering a common crash that prevents them from playing. An increasing number of users are experiencing a crash with the error code “0X887A0006, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG”. This is a pretty common crash code that one encounters while playing Apex legends. The game randomly drops from a stable 120-140 frames to 30-40 and then it crashes after some time.
Since the start of Apex Legends Season 13, the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG Engine Error code has surged among Apex Legends players playing the game on PC and XBOX too. This is what the error looks like on screen.
Players are reporting the Nvidia 3000 series crashing almost after every 20 minutes into the play. It is frustrating for players who have played the game since Apex Legends Season 1 was released. However, due to the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG crash code, they are getting demoted over and over whenever they crash out. Some players are facing DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG crash happening just when they are in the middle of matches. Due to this, they face getting kicked out and subsequently getting an abandonment penalty. Due to the issue players are seriously contemplating leaving the game play completely.
In order to fix the DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG, players have tried all possible conventional workarounds listed on the internet till EA releases a patch. But nothing has worked so far. This includes updating GPU drivers and even downgrading them, repairing game in Origin by uninstall, reinstall, verifying game files, swapping the video texture streaming budget to 4GB or lower, reroll to an older driver version of NVIDIA, uninstalling and reinstalling antivirus, changed compatibility in r5apex.exe but the crash did not stop.

In addition, as another countermeasure for PC players, there is a method of fixing the number of clocks so that the number of GPU clocks does not rise too much. Since the procedure depends on the graphics card check out the correct procedure before attempting it.
‘DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG’ error acknowledged by EA
The Apex crash issue has been highlighted on all forums. EA dev team has tweeted to one such player, acknowledging the crash issue that many Apex Legends are experiencing. Most players are having the issue with 3000 series Nvidia cards. EA dev team is working with the NVIDIA team to come up with a fix. Hopefully a new driver soon or a patch is coming from the Apex to fix the ‘DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG’ error.
