The Rising of the Shield Hero
Season 1 of The Rising of the Shield Hero follows the protagonist, Naofumi Iwatani. Three other people along with Naofumi are brought into a parallel universe. They are responsible for fighting Waves, a race of interdimensional monsters who come in hordes. All of them want to be the Legendary Hero by saving the planet from the monsters.
All heroes are equipped with legendary weapons that can be summoned on will. Unlike other heroes who are backed by their respective kingdoms and numerous allies, Naofumi is on his own.
His only ally, the princess, accuses the hero of being a sexual offender. Apart from being betrayed by his only ally and friend, he is also stripped of all his belongings. As a result, Naofumi is on his own to train and even struggles to make ends meet. Not only our protagonist has to win the battle against Waves, but he also has to win back society’s trust.
Takao Abo, the director of the anime, was criticized for using maltreatment as one of the main plots of the series. Even with all the controversy and criticism surrounding the anime, it quickly became one of the most successful anime all over the world.
