OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T were on the list of eligible devices to receive OxygenOS 11 update. It is an Android 11 based custom skin from OnePlus. It has been almost 3 months that few previous flagship models from OnePlus are yet to receive the Android 11 update. There is neither any communication so far from the OEM.
Its premium flagship smartphones OnePlus 8 series were the first ones to receive in January. They were followed by the next in line, the OnePlus 7 series. However, OxygenOS 11 update for its older phone OnePlus 6 and 6T continues to be a far-fetched dream now. With OnePlus Nord receiving the Android 11 update recently, it has been huge disillusionment for the older OnePlus 6 and 6T users.
The disappointment is written largely because the OnePlus 6 will be receiving its 3rd and final major Android update in OxgenOS 11. It had been launched in May 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo pre-installed. It was originally planned to receive only 2 major Android skin updates and is updated up to 10, OxygenOS 10.3.1. However, OnePlus has been nice to extend to Android 11 update for its erstwhile premium flagship.
On the other hand, the OnePlus 6T was launched with Android 9.0 later on an update to 10, OxygenOS 10.3.1. It came with Android Pie out of the box and became eligible to receive Android 11 automatically.
Yesterday, OnePlus rolled out OxygenOS 10.3.9 for the OnePlus 6 and 6T devices. It is a security patch based on Android 10. It also brings an updated GMS package and fixes of known issues. It will be a February Android security level. No response or confirmation on timelines from OnePlus has left the owners bewildered. There is also no Oneplus’ official excuse for not delivering timely security updates.
Where to download OxygenOS 10.3.9 from for OnePlus 6 & 6T?
OnePlus has announced that its bimonthly security patch, OxygenOS 10.3.9 update will be an incremental rollout. A stable global rollout will happen in coming days once no critical issues are reported in the patch.

With Android 12 almost around the corner, users are asking whether OnePlus plans to skip OxygenOS 11 update on the OnePlus 6 and 6T altogether. However, if we look at the track record of OnePlus, it released Android 10 update to OnePlus 5 & 5T by May 2020. Staying optimistic till mid-2021 is the best we can do.
In the meantime, after March 24 all Chinese OnePlus devices will run on COLOR OS 11 and H²OS will be gradually phased out. Do stay tuned with us with all the latest technology news.
