How Smartphones Changed Our Lives

Shortly after their appearance, smartphones changed our lives for the better by allowing us to be just a click away from what’s going on in the world. Anything we want to look for on the internet is quickly accessible regardless of our location and time zone.

Let’s say you’re a gambling fan and want to claim some of the most lucrative bonuses, like the GGbet 50 free spins bonus. You could literally do that while riding a subway on your way home or shopping for groceries.

Smartphones have changed how we operate on a daily basis, and most of the changes have been positive so far. Below are some of the most significant areas of life they’ve impacted, and who knows where the limits to that might be in the future.

Entertainment

Smartphones have transformed how we perceive entertainment. The biggest changes occurred in the following areas:

  • Video games;
  • Video Content & Social Media;
  • Movies & TV Shows;
  • Music Industry.

If you think about it, we are basically carrying computers that fit into our pockets, allowing us to play all kinds of video games on the go.

In addition to that, consuming video content is way different compared to only a decade ago, let alone to an era when TVs were the most dominant medium.

Youtube and social media have spoiled us to the point where we don’t want to adjust to the TV station’s broadcasting schedule. Instead, we can choose what to watch whenever we want to watch it.

Speaking of entertainment and YouTube, the music industry suffered major changes in terms of songs and albums getting published.

Although artists still sell their music, plenty of them have chosen a different business plan that attracts audiences through free Youtube music videos. Once they gain popularity, artists can later monetize their stardom through tours and concerts.

Business

Besides entertainment, business is another area of life that has changed drastically due to the rise of smartphones.

Once companies discovered that the internet could be a useful tool for the distribution of goods and services, the whole game of business shifted towards building online platforms that make purchasing quick and convenient.

Back in the old days, customers would have to leave their apartments, use transportation, spend time looking for a product in a particular store, maybe face the store not having the desired one in stock, etc.

But, thanks to smartphones, we can visit more than a dozen stores in just a couple of minutes, take a look at hundreds of products, check their specifications without talking to the salespeople, choose and modify all the available details, and wait for them to get delivered at our door.

It’s no secret that companies like Amazon, Netflix, Uber Eats, and others similar to them have become so dominant in an internet-oriented market. Their customers want their services delivered as fast as possible in the best way possible, and these companies make sure that’s exactly what happens once they hit the order button.

Communication

Despite being way more powerful than their ancestral versions, smartphones are still phones. Behind all the apps, face-recognizing camera gadgets, planners, and professional programs, calls and messages still separate them from other devices.

However, the way we exchange those have changed over the years to the point where we rarely engage in class calls and texts and use platforms like Zoom, Skype, and other video communication.

The changes in customer habits led to changes in the company’s business models. In the past, calling and texting were quite expensive since they got tracked in minutes and the number of messages sent. Today, those are considered almost free, while we pay monthly bills to our provider for being globally covered.

On top of everything, the way smartphones have made the biggest change within the communication area is they allowed us to switch from speaking one-on-one to having group calls with an almost unlimited number of participants.

If you have strong enough wifi, you can round up all of your friends, colleagues, or business partners and talk about whatever you want, for as long as you want.

Final Thoughts

Smartphones are arguably the smallest device in the history of mankind that was able to make the biggest impact on how we go through our daily lives, let alone how we use the internet.

Their appearance has resulted in speeding up the pace we live, purchase things, communicate with others, and how we perceive having fun. They presented us with a multitude of choices but introduced us to another modern problem – the fear of missing out.

It took less than a decade for us to adopt smartphones in our lives as if we had never lived without them. It will be interesting to see if we’ll be able to limit their impact in the future, just enough so that we remain aware that we’ve created online stuff to serve us in our offline lives and not the other way around.
