It is official now! ‘Lucifer’ Season 5 Part 2 will not be able to make by Christmas 2020. We all are aware that shooting is complete for Season 5 Part 2 and the cast & crew have begun with the filming of the final Lucifer Season 6. This had thrown everyone to speculations that Lucifer Season 5 Part 2 should drop by the close of 2020 on Netflix.

However, the co-showrunner on Netflix, Joe Henderson while replying to a query on Part 2 put rest to 2020 hopes. Henderson, co-showrunner alongside Ildy Modrovich, confirmed that ‘Lucifer’ Season 5 Part 2 on Netflix is certainly not dropping by this year.

Henderson while replying on Twitter that for Season 5 Part 2 to get ready for Netflix needs “plenty to do”. As of now, he can confirm that only shooting has been wrapped up. He went on further to deny a December timeline categorically.

On the possibility of a release date in January or February 2021, Joe further clarified –

I genuinely don’t know how long it’ll take yet, but I think everyone should prepare for it taking longer than they’d like — post is a lot of work and takes time! (definitely not December)

As of now, we are not aware of the status of the production work of ‘Lucifer’ Season 5 Part 2. On January 2nd, 2021, Lucifer writer Ildy Modrovich had tweeted saying “Trying to finish up VFX and dubbing! Shouldn’t be toooo much longer??”

It was followed by another teaser in first week of March keeping our hopes alive that the announcement date is nearing!

The most optimistic timeline we can think of after insights from Henderson is Q2-Q3 2021. If all goes well, then the final part of the Lucifer Season 5 release can happen in the second quarter of 2021, say between April and July 2021

It can be assumed that finalizing VFX, subtitles & dubs of the series and building marketing collaterals will be a few of the tasks that the team will be working on.

Lucifer Season 6 will take another 6 months after the premiere of Season 5 Part 2, possibly getting shipped in late 2021. However, in the current scenario, early 2022 cannot be ruled out. In fact, Tom Ellis sometime ago admitted season 5 part 2 to come around Christmas.

Lucifer Season 5 Part 1 was aired on Netflix on August 21. 95% of the shooting of Part 2 was completed before the pandemic broke. Now, the Lucifer fans are waiting for a treat to the final 8 episodes of Season 2.
