Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has earned the reputation of coming late to pushing the latest Android updates to its eligible devices. This habit of delayed deployment has always irked the end-users. Now when it is the time when other OEMs have almost wound up stable rollouts of Android 11, Huawei smartphones are struggling to receive even the routine monthly software and security patches. Recently after a wait of few months, the company has released a software update along with the November 2020 security patch for Honor 8X.

Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei, came up with smartphones to cater to the younger generation with decent specs and an affordable budget. Honor 8X one was of the most successful model in terms of sales to Honor. The company had promised to provide at least 3 years of security patch updates.

Honor 8X smartphone was released in September 2018 and ran on Android 8.1, up to Android 9.0, EMUI 9.0. In March 2020, the device received the EMUI 10 (Android 10) 101MB, 10.0.0.243, stable update, delayed by few months. With the launch of EMUI 11 (Android 11), users started inquiring about Honor 8X eligibility to get an EMUI 10.1 or EMUI 11 upgrade.

In the rollout schedule originally shared Honor 8X and Honor 8X Max devices were in the non-supported category. However, Honor has not completely denied it when questioned “Will Honor 20 get Android 11“? A similar reply can be found on the Honor Community forum page.

The reply to the persistent question is that the devs are testing the feasibility of the wider rollout of Honor 8x update 2021.

The reply gives a sigh of relief to the users of the popular model. They can keep their hopes of receiving an update sometime in future.

At the end of January, Honor had started the global rollout of EMUI 10.0.0.239 with an update size of 449MB. Delayed by a couple of months, January was a software update with the November security patch. It rolled out with fixes in system security. The changelog included fixes to 1 critical and 11 major severity bugs.

We will keep you updated with the latest news on when Honor 20 will be ready to receive EMUI 11 or Android 10.1. Till then keep posting your thoughts!
