With the launch of Rockstar’s PC Game launcher on Tuesday, the world of PC gaming is getting crowded. Rockstar has lured its customers by offering Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas up for free with its debut. Installing the PC launcher will also add a digital copy of GTA: San Andreas to the library for free but for a limited time.

The Rockstar Launcher was first spotted by GTA and Red Dead fans across Twitter. But the digital launcher is barebones and is offering bare minimum features as of now. It is drawing many comparisons to Blizzard’s Battle.net launcher due to similarities of interface and layout.
The platform is offering seven games on sale which include Bully: Scholarship Edition @$14.99, Max Pain 3: Complete Edition is $34.98, L.A. Noire: Complete Edition @$29.99, Grand Theft Auto 3 is $9.99, Grand Theft Auto 5: Premium Edition @$34.98, and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is $9.99. Some of the classic Rockstar titles like Manhunt, Midnight Club, older top-down GTA titles aren’t currently for sale.
“The Rockstar Games Launcher comes with a host of features including the addition of cloud save functionality to all supported titles, the ability to keep your Rockstar Games PC library updated automatically, and ways to follow all the latest Rockstar Games news from directly inside the Launcher,” says Rockstar.
To get started, gamers need a Rockstar Games Social Club account. The Windows PC launcher can be downloaded by hitting the button “Download For Windows“. Once downloaded, it will seek permission to scan your PC. It will pull out any installed Rockstar Games titles into the launcher.
Creating an account on the Rockstar Social Club will sync up cloud saves, and automatically update games. The digital launcher is a storehouse where you can keep all Rockstar games. Players can buy, download, play and store the latest Rockstar Games PC titles irrespective of the source from where they were purchased.
In case you have games residing on Steam launcher then Rockstar has the option to import them too. All you need to do is click on “Play On Steam” to start the game.
Now it is to be seen how Rockstar fares in the competition of the likes of Electronic Arts’ Origin, Ubisoft’s Uplay, and the Bethesda.net Launcher. It is expected to enhance and become more competitive in future. But Rockstar fans are positive and speculating that with the launch they have a chance to lay their hands on Red Dead Redemption 2.
But there are questions on the marketing move of limited-time free GTA San Andreas offer, is it sufficient to lure gamers? Is the game not old enough? But going by Rockstar’s past records, it has proven abilities to turn such opportunities to a goldmine.
