Google rolled out the March 2023 update for Google Pixel devices on 13th March. All the eligible Pixel devices running on Android 13 will start receiving the software and security updates starting from Monday. It can take up to 2 weeks to reach all devices.

Apart from the new features, the March 2023 software update carries fixes for almost 50 bugs. Additionally, the March 2023 feature drop includes enhancements in areas, including device stability, battery & charging, camera stability, touch response and performance, connectivity, and much more. The size of the update is 227MB on the 4a and 459MB on the Pixel 7 Pro and it always takes forever for the installation to finish for the impatient ones. These updates are important for ensuring the smooth operation of the device and protecting against security vulnerabilities.

Unfortunately, Google Pixel 6 series including Pixels 6, 6 Pro, and 6a are not on the list of the recent security and March 2023 feature drop yet. There is no intimation about getting missed out by Google in the notification and it has not gone down well with the users. Many users were desperately waiting for a stable update that could fix the low light photography and work on the camera being too noisy in most indoor light conditions.

India users feel cheated because they were waiting for the March Feature drop 2023 and the 5G Update for Indian units of Pixel 6 series phones. 5G has been confirmed to be enabled for the rest of the devices in the latest update.

Though officially speaking the reason behind the delay is not given by the Google team. However, while responding to similar queries, Support gave the reason for the delay due to the 5G implementation in Pixel 6 series.

Google support has also confirmed the date when the stable March 2023 update for Google Pixel 6 series will happen. It is next Monday 20th March.

Google chat “support” claims “We’ve received an internal update that the update will start rollout from March 20, 2023 for the Pixel 6a devices.”

Google Forum

The support has confirmed that the rollout will kick off on 20th March and will continue for another week depending on carrier networks. Pixel 6 series users will receive notifications on their devices once their carriers release OTA.

Though the reason behind the delay is not known, but it is highly likely that the OTA would have encountered some bugs. It’s in the interest of everyone to wait for a stable March 2023 update that is glitch-free. In the meantime, do share with us if you start receiving the update before 20th March.
