After the huge success of Modern Warfare reboot launched in 2019, Activision seems to be working on a Black Ops reboot for 2020. However, there is a piece of bad news associated with the Call of Duty 2020.
Rumors suggest that this reboot of Black Ops would not feature a Battle Royale mode. The source of this rumor is The Gaming Revolution who mentions that his sources told him that there isn’t any discussion going on about a BR mode.
Even now, there isn’t any news regarding a Battle Royale mode for Call of Duty 2020. Thus, it could be assumed that this year’s Call of Duty won’t feature a Battle Royale mode. Even though The Gaming Revolution says that this theory hasn’t been confirmed yet, but his sources have also mentioned that a free-to-play Call of Duty title is coming out in 2021.
This new title is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and would be a spin-off game. It will have a Battle Royale mode with an ability to build structures as can be done in Fortnite.
So, Activision might be ditching the idea to provide a Battle Royale mode in Call of Duty 2020 as people who are interested in this game mode would certainly prefer the free-to-play version released in 2021. Until then they have Call of Duty: Warzone. So, adding a Battle Royale mode to the next title would only result in wastage of resources.
However, all this information comes through an unverified source and unless we get to hear something from the developers, we cannot be certain if the information is true.
Even though The Gaming Revolution has provided accurate information in the past, we should still take his theory with a grain of salt and it is only a matter of a couple of months before we get to hear about the next entry in the Call of Duty franchise from Activision itself.
