Ori and the Will of the Wisps is coming out soon, and everybody has high hopes from this game. The game is a direct sequel to the popular Ori and the Blind Forest. It will cover the story of Ori after he saves the forest from certain death.

Ori would be going on a new adventure with his friends as he finds the truth about the lost ones and finds about his destiny. Ori and his friend take to the skies, but a thunderstorm makes it difficult for them to continue, and they are knocked out of the sky, falling deep within the forest of Nibel with danger lurking around. After getting separated, it is up to Ori to find his friend and get back to his home safely.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is introducing better combat mechanics, which are inspired by another gem of a game, Hollow Knight. The games are quite similar, and coming under the category of the Metroidvania genre makes it not surprising at all.

This time around, we won’t be seeing a linear skill tree, but a new shard system would let you swap skills as the situation demands. The shards would provide you with higher damage, higher defense, and an ability to stick to the walls.

Daniel Smith, the producer at Xbox Game Studios, has also said that the game is taking influence from another popular game franchise. The studio is going with combat, character progression and will include spirit weapons and melee combat, as seen in Zelda games.

“WE TOOK MORE OF A ZELDA INFLUENCE, IN TERMS OF COMBAT AND EVEN CHARACTER PROGRESSION, AND REALLY INFLUENCED THE GAMEPLAY WITH SPIRIT WEAPONS AND MELEE COMBAT, AND MAYBE PERHAPS EVEN ABILITIES THAT REQUIRE PRECISION AND AIMING,” COMMENTED DANIEL SMITH

What makes these additions better is that it makes the game more interesting without forcing them upon the player. Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be giving a larger emphasis on the combat system without sacrificing its platformer mechanics. These changes would make the game more challenging, and the story will be as good as that of the original game.

Let us hope it lives up to the hype when it releases on 11th March.
