Building on the collaboration between OnePlus and MediaTek, the OnePlus 10R makes use of the recently released MediaTek Dimensity 8100 MAX processor. The D8100-MAX SoC is an incredible asset to the R series DNA, with the ability to run graphically heavy games smoothly while minimizing battery usage and thermal efficiency. It is touted to give the best-in-class HFR gaming experience.
In terms of performance, the Dimensity 8100 MAX’s CPU multi-core performance outperforms the older model MediaTek Dimensity 1200 chipset by up to 11%. Furthermore, the CPU improves gaming performance by up to 20% over the MediaTek Dimensity 8000, as well as battery efficiency by over 25% over prior MediaTek Dimensity processors. Users may now play for longer periods, conserve more battery power, and maintain the device’s battery capacity throughout its lifespan.
The 8100 MAX, of course, keeps the device cool throughout the most demanding activities, but they claimed to not have stopped there. The OnePlus 10R has the biggest and most sophisticated cooling mechanism on a OnePlus phone to date, particularly in comparison to the already gigantic OnePlus 10 Pro cooling mechanism.
The MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX chipset is a modified version of the normal MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset that was developed in close partnership with OnePlus. The improved silicon provides three significant advantages that improve the performance of the OnePlus 10R:
- Improved AI performance – the chipset has a specialized AI processor, the MediaTek APU 580, which provides 275 percent higher AI operating speed performance than the previous version.
- More steady gaming performance — Using the same innovation as the MediaTek 9000 processor, the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-MAX provides a more steady gaming experience with greater frame rates. This is the ideal addition to the HyperBoost Gaming Engine, which was revealed in February.
- Enhanced Nightscape video — Following the launch, the OnePlus 10R acquired an OTA that took nighttime videography to the next level, allowing you to shoot decent quality Nightscape videos with less distortion, culminating in sharper footage.
MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max Issues
Even though the capabilities and benefits of the OnePlus 10R’s MediaTek Dimesnity 8100 Max appear to be among the top, consumers in China have encountered troubles with this smartphone. They documented their experiences on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.
The OnePlus 10R is powered by OxygenOS 12.1, which is built on top of Android 12. OxygenOS 12.1 is simply ColorOS 12 with minor modifications. Beyond the surface-level aesthetic modifications, the OS is similar to that seen on OnePlus and Realme devices. Unfortunately, the two systems’ user interfaces have been blended with all the finesse of a car wreck. Some OxygenOS 11 design features have been retained, while others have been substituted with ColorOS design features. Some of this discrepancy has now crept into ColorOS’s latest versions. Stuttering problems with some programs caused by the dynamic refresh rate also exist.
In a perfect world, OnePlus would simply create a CPU scheduler that intelligently scaled down when not being used and ramped up to maximum capacity when required by the user. Instead, the OEM has attempted to merely limit functionality by default and provide the user with the nuclear launch keys if they feel the necessity to kill their battery. Because, while the performance mode allows you to get the most out of your smartphone, leaving it in that condition continuously would destroy your battery, making it an unrealistic choice.
OnePlus has not yet commented on these issues, but we hope that they will do so soon. Do you like the MediaTek Dimesity 8100 Max better? Tell us in the comments!
