Fire up Google Assistant with a swipe on Nokia 8.1 in Android Q Beta 5

Android Q is still months away from an actual release. The Beta development program for Android Q is in full swing. Companies like OnePlus, Huawei etc are trying their best to be the first ones to release Android Q on their devices. Meanwhile, Nokia has come up with Android Q Beta 5 release for Nokia 8.1 devices.

Ever since HMD Global took over Nokia’s smartphone and feature phone business in 2016, they have been very consistent with providing updates to their devices. The latest Beta for Nokia 8.1 has a Google Assitant trick. You can bring the Google Assistant by just swiping from the bottom corner instead of holding the power button or saying “Okay Google”.

The new gesture is explained in a video posted on Twitter by Juho Sarvikas, who is currently the Chief Product Officer at HMD Global. User will have to swipe from left or right bottom corners and it will fire Google Assistant. Android Q Beta 5 is available as a developer preview option to download.

  1. Woah. That’s so easy. Android Q will be full of gestural effects. Also, google assistant is a very frequent tool in day to day life. We ask everything to it. I liked this feature but for that, I need to buy Nokia 8.1. Thanks for sharing!
