“Haikyuu!” has been a monumental franchise in the world of sports animanga since its inception. There is strong anticipation for Haikyuu Season 5 as fans are looking for its pending release. In the meantime, the last two-part sequel Haikyuu!! Final movie has been announced by the franchise. The sequel “Haikyu!! FINAL” has been announced as a “Two Part Movie” with the Haikyu!! FINAL movie kick-off event in August 2023.

Fans of this awesome volleyball anime and even for a game like Roblox have been waiting earnestly waiting for the new season of the anime since the last Haikyuu Season 4 Part 2 ended. Haruichi Furudate’s “Haikyuu!” has been taking the genre of sports anime by storm since the time it got an anime adaptation in 2014 by ‘Production I.G’.

After the last season was released, fans have been waiting for the new season to release since the last season did not completely show the journey of the team ‘Karasuno’ through the finals. Even though the Haikyuu Season 4 Part 2 showed a strong competition between Inarizaki High and Karasuno where the battle between the whole team of Karasuno and the eccentric Miya twins from Inarizaki High was beautifully depicted. Now, it has been announced that the rest of the story will be covered in the new two-part sequel Haikyuu!! Final Movie.

What do we know so far about “Haikyuu!”?

The story of “Haikyuu!” revolves around Hinata Shoyo who once sees a volleyball match between the team Karasuno on television. There he falls deeply in love with the sport and gains a lot of motivation from a certain player in the team, titled “The Little Giant”. Following this, it is shown how much Hinata has grown fond of the sport in spite of him not being of adequate height which is really required in the sport.

Even though Hinata is lacking in his height, he has one quality that overshadows many others, which is his vertical jumping capability. Hinata has an inhuman spring to his step and can jump really high. Teamed up with Kageyama Tobio, Hinata and Kageyama become a force to be reckoned with.

Kageyama was an ex-rival of Hinata’s and he is termed the “King of the Court” due to his outstanding setting capabilities. With Kageyama as the setter and Hinata as the spiker, the earlier dormant team of Karasuno starts gaining a lot of momentum, and the Hinata-Kageyama duo gain fame because of the “quicks” that they deliver, which are so fast that it is almost impossible for the human body to react to.

The story then continues with the struggles, matches, and battles of the team Karasuno both on internal and external levels. If there is one thing that the fans and the whole community of anime-watchers agree on, it is that “Haikyuu!” is one of the best sports manga and anime to ever exist. It covers the psychological hurdles of a sport, of the team as a whole, and also shows the amount of struggle that a team has to undergo to prepare themselves for serious competitions.

What do we know about Haikyuu!! Final Movie Release Date?

The Haikyuu!! Final Movie has been buzzing around in the anime community since its kick-off event got announced. In the new tweet from the franchise’s official Twitter account, it was indicated that there would be a kick-off event for the two films on August 2023.

The release date for the movies has not yet been disclosed yet. All we know as of now is that a two-part Haikyuu movie is going to be released which will cover the rest of the 5 arcs which are left and it will be titled “Haikyuu!! Final Movie”.  Although the release dates have not been announced, it is safe to assume that team Karasuno will be back on the court sometime in the first half of 2024, probably in the summer anime lineup of 2024.

The announcement also released a Haikyuu!! Final movie teaser visual. One can make out the always vibrant Hinata. The runtime for both the Haikyuu!! Final movie is likely to be 2 hours. For Haikyuu!! manga readers, it is tough to visualize whether a duration of 4 hours will cover vital arcs and do justice to the storyline

The remaining 5 arcs and 110 chapters will cover the rest of the matches that the team Karasuno will play in the nationals. Up in the line, they are going to go toe-to-toe with Nekoma, their biggest rivals by far, and Kamomedai. Following this, there will be a time skip and the viewers will probably have to be ready for some waterworks and keep some tissues handy.

Will Haikyuu!! Final Movie be released on Netflix or Crunchyroll?

Another question that is worrying fans outside Japan is when and which online platform will the Haikyuu!! Final Movie release for a global audience. This space will be updated as and when there is confirmed news from Production I.G and Toho Animation.

In the meantime, one can revisit the previous 4 seasons of Haikyuu English Dub on Crunchyroll. Haikyuu Season 1 and Season 2 were added to the catalog of Netflix till October 2021 after spending 2 years. Keeping in mind its popularity, it will not be a surprise when all the seasons are again licensed on Netflix, somewhat similar to Attack on Titan.

The trailer for Haikyuu!! Final movie primarily features scenes from the anime alongside cuts from the manga series.

Why are Haikyuu!! Final Movie fans distressed?

As said before, fans have always been happy with the anime adaptation of the Haikyuu manga so far. The anime has really managed to properly capture the emotions that the manga has shown. There have been several instances where the anime adaptation has not done justice to the manga and the fans. In cases like these, fans tend to get really agitated since the efforts of the manga artist practically go to vain when the anime adaptation is not up to the mark.

But in the case of “Haikyuu!”, fans have never had these kinds of complaints. This includes me who has been an ardent fan of “Haikyuu!”.

But now, the fact that all 5 remaining arcs and 110 chapters of the manga are going to be covered in just a two-part sequel Haikyuu movie, is kind of a concern for the fans. Considering the fact that these arcs are some of the most crucial ones in the whole storyline and also the ones with some of the most emotionally intensive parts of the whole storyline, fans are really skeptical if all this can be summed up in just a two-part sequel movie.

We all know that Production I.G has no weight in the decision for announcing 2 movies or an anime series. Its job is to carry on with the franchise knowing damn well that it’s likely to be a botched final product. Many fans are worried that the recent rise of Canon Movie trends has started hurting anime.

But at the end of the day, the fans have been waiting for 2 years for any news regarding the release of Haikyuu! Season 5. So, no matter what, we are really excited about this new Haikyuu!! Final Movie and the continuation of the anime plot. Haikyuu Final is a decade-old chicken coming to roost – please be patient and respectful of the animation team. It is best to just wait and see what kind of emotional rollercoaster this new season is going to take us on!
