After the controversial and not-so-good finale of Game of Thrones, the show received a lot of backlashes from raging fans. The fan’s favorite TV show Game of Thrones didn’t fulfill the fan’s expectations, especially with the last season.

The plot felt a rush, there wasn’t the iconic storytelling that Game of Thrones is known for and it ended without revealing much about most of the stories that were built over the years. Therefore, fans were unsatisfied and hoped to see a Game of Thrones sequel that will continue the story of this amazing show.

However, instead of a sequel, the fans can be only satisfied with a prequel, called House of the Dragon. House of the Dragon is the latest spin-off that will premiere on August 21, and it is highly anticipated by fans that want to travel back to the times of Game of Thrones.

But, will House of the Dragon has the potential to reclaim everything we loved about Game of Thrones? And will it be good enough to fix all the mistakes that were made in the final season?

Let’s see.

How Can House of the Dragon Fix the Mistakes from Game of Thrones?

There are several mistakes in the original series that were changed for the upcoming House of the Dragon, which promise a more entertaining show.

Female Writers

The new upcoming series will follow the life of Rhaenyra Targaryen, which will be played by Emma D’Arcy, and Milly Alcock, who is in line to claim the throne of Westeros. With that said, this series won’t continue the story of Game of Thrones just because the action takes place hundreds of years before the original show.

Even though the timeline is different, House of the Dragon will still have politics, scandalous relationships, war, and much more. This means that even though it will be a completely different story, House of The Dragon will have all the things we loved from Game of Thrones, which is a good thing.

The storytelling will continue with the same uncertainty that will even inspire the Game of Thrones betting lines to predict the outcome of the show.

One of the reasons why House of The Dragon can potentially fix the mistakes from the original show is because the new series has something that Game of Thrones didn’t have many – female writers.

If we look back at Game of Thrones, one of the main mistakes was in the storytelling. The last season felt rushed and characters that were built over the years vanished without adding any value. Game of Thrones had 73 episodes, and only 4 were written by women (Jane Espenson and Venessa Taylor). The lack of equality behind the scenes never bothered people too much until the final plotline unfolded.

Daenerys Targaryen was a character that was built into a pillar of strength in the eight seasons of Game of Thrones, but the male writers decided to skip their hero status and turn her into a senseless killing of innocent people, the same ones that she fought to protect over the years.

However, the situation with the House of Dragon is very much different behind the scenes. There is much more equality between men and women, making it great for storytelling as women can reflect their perspectives on the script.

Material to Work With

In defense of the writers of Game of Thrones, George R.R Martin went above and beyond with the source material for the show, which made the situation difficult for them to choose which things to highlight first.

This is not the case with the House of the Dragon just because the entire story is told in George R.R Martin’s Fire and Blood, and the author himself is the creator and executive producer of the show.

Producers of the Show

The main problem with Game of Thrones lies in the producers David Benioff and Dan Weiss. Their behavior towards Game of Thrones cannot be tolerated just because they didn’t take any responsibility for the disastrous season finale. On top of that, they both have been accused of not sharing the same respect for the show.

On the other hand, Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik that is in charge of House of the Dragon are long-time fans of the universe and deeply care about the story. Appreciating the creation of the show and being a fan of it can push people beyond their limits into creating the ultimate TV show series.

Both new directors of the show said that every change that was made in the story and how it was interpreted was approved by Martin. Martin also spoke highly of the team, which means that this time there is a good chance that the new series will be on the right path to success.

Final Words

Basically, the new show House of the Dragon should contain all the things we loved from Game of Thrones, but they should be wrapped into much better storytelling.

From what we’ve seen so far, House of the Dragon seems to have all the things that we loved from Game of Thrones, apart from the mistakes that the previous production ran into.

This promises a great show that won’t disappoint fans the way Game of Thrones did with the last season.
