Sony introduced its latest flagship model, the Xperia 5V to the world on September 1, 2023. Yesterday, its compact called the Xperia 5 V micro was announced to the world on Sony’s official X account. The Xperia 5 V micro is advertised with the slogan “Small but Mighty” and is designed to be a more compact version of the Xperia 5V.

The Xperia 5 V micro aims to provide a flagship-level experience in a more miniature form factor, appealing to users who prefer more compact phones. Do not go by the pocket size! Sony is focusing on maintaining high-end features and performance, ensuring that users can enjoy top-tier specifications without having to compromise on functionality.

Sony’s tweet introduces the new powerhouse “This pocket rocket of a smartphone has a tiny camera that packs a punch.”

While specific details about the Xperia 5 V micro’s specifications have not been revealed, it is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which suggests it will offer strong performance despite its smaller size.

Naturally, the pocket size of the Xperia 5 V micro may result in some compromises, particularly in the optics department. Due to the device’s reduced size, the camera sensors are expected to be smaller than the standard sizes we use daily. This could lead to a drop in overall camera performance compared to the flagship Sony Xperia 5 V.

Sony has only released a two-dimensional image of the Xperia 5 V micro from the rear, so it’s unclear about the design specs, particularly its thickness. We are assuming that the pocket device is relatively thick so that it could potentially house a telephoto camera with a longer focal length.

There has been significant demand from users globally for Sony to revive its flagship Xperia Compact series. The Xperia 5 V micro seems to be Sony’s response to these requests.

Despite Sony’s official announcement, due to the announcement coming on 1st April, some users are speculating that the Xperia 5 V micro might be an April Fool’s joke. However, Sony has refuted it and stated that the Xperia 5 V micro is a genuine product offering.
