Wireless earphones can often be classified into two segments, the ones where earpieces are connected with a wire, and the truly wireless ones.
One of the most popular truly wireless earphones is the Apple Airpods. However, they cost as much as a budget mobile phone. So, people who have limited budgets need to look for a more affordable option. Xiaomi, also known as Apple of China, has decided to make the dream of owning a pair of truly wireless earphones at an affordable price a reality.
In a recent tweet, Manu Kumar Jain announced that Flipkart would start selling Xiaomi’s Redmi Earbuds S from 27th May 12 PM IST. The wireless earbuds from Xiaomi would be available at an affordable price of ₹1799.
At the moment of the launch, Redmi Earbuds S would probably be the most affordable wireless earbuds in the market. So, is Xiaomi going to compromise on the sound quality and battery life to reduce the price? Let us take a look at the specs to get an idea. Interestingly, Xiaomi launched Mi True Wireless headphones 2 recently for ₹4499.
Earbuds S have 7.2mm drivers, whereas the more expensive version, the True Wireless headphones 2 have 14.2 mm drivers. Generally, a bigger driver means better sound quality. So, Earbuds S won’t sound as good as the more expensive model, but it not fair to expect much at this price point.
Each of these earpieces weighs around 4gm and comes with an IPX4 rating for water resistance. The earphones support SBC codec along with a low latency mode for better phone call experience. The earphones come with BlueTooth 5.0, which consumes a lot less battery as compared to previous versions. As a result, in a single charge, the earphones can work up to four hours. As the case doubles up as a charger, you can use the earphones for up to twelve hours.
The aggressive pricing from Xiaomi is truly going to work in their favour as the next cheapest set of truly wireless earphones are Realme Buds Air Neo that cost ₹2999.
So, are you interested in Redmi Earbuds S, or would you opt for an expensive variant for better quality?
