In October, WhatsApp’s disappearing messages and dark mode features were making rounds. The dark mode feature was much awaited as all the major competitive apps had already introduced the feature and many of them had it from the beginning itself. As for the disappearing messages feature, sources suggested that the messages will self destruct after a certain period which can be set by the user. In its latest update, WhatsApp has added more modifications in both the features.
The dark mode on WhatsApp has its own benefits, a majority of users use the application during the night hours and the bright background proves to be a menace for the eyes. Hence, the dark mode will enable the users to use the app during the night without straining their eyes. Dark Mode also helps save battery on smartphones that come with AMOLED display.
As of now, both the features are still a work in progress and have not been released for public beta users. Users will be able to turn the features on or off the delete messages feature through a toggle button. For the group chats, only admins will be able to turn this feature on or off. For selecting the time interval, users will get five options to choose from, i.e. one hour, one day, one week, one month and one year.
In the ‘delete for everyone’ feature, all the traces are not erased of the conversation, and the notification exists permanently. This will not be the case with the disappearing messages feature.
The dark mode is not a unique feature but it will make the app more user-friendly. WhatsApp has readied the dark mode and the feature can hit the launch-pad anytime soon.
