The telecom duo Vodafone-Idea has announced the launch of the first phase of upgraded network TurboNet 4G on Thursday. In the initial phase, successful integration of the network has been tested in select cities of UP West, Rajasthan and rest of Bengal only. Roll out to other parts of the country will happen over the next few months in a phased manner.
As claimed by the company, TurboNet 4G will come with a “state of the art 4G LTE network with dual spectrum power offering higher capacity and coverage.” The first phase implementation has successfully integrated radio network and advanced technologies. They include the latest ones- Dynamic Spectrum Re-farming (DSR), Spectrum Re-farming, M-MIMO, L900, TDD, and Small Cells. The enhanced service is expected to deliver a hike in capacity and facilitate a network which is “bigger, stronger and better.”
Vishant Vora, Chief Technology Officer, Vodafone Idea Ltd while briefing about the upgraded 4G network said, “TurboNet truly defines the reinvented 4G network which promises to deliver wider coverage, increased capacity, turbo speeds, and superior customer experience. Our unified network is being presented to customers of both brands under a single brand proposition – TurboNet 4G – in all the integrated markets in India. So whether you are a Vodafone or Idea customer, your network is now bigger, stronger and better.”
To achieve, improve the 4G network targeted performance and monitor its TurboNet 4G service, Vodafone Idea has set up war rooms at national and circle levels. SNOC at Pune is managing real-time monitoring of the network.
Post-merger of Vodafone and Idea, their 4G network as reached out to 830 million population of India. Brand Vodafone increased its user base by 340 million and Idea added 230 million population on to it. It is hoping to challenge the top players Jio and Airtel by increasing the pace of network integration. The company confirmed that the implementation of exercise has been consolidated in 72% of districts in India. As per the claims, the customer is expected to get an improvement in 4G speed by more than 50%. Ookla, the company behind Speedtest.net has also confirmed that the customers of Vodafone have benefited in mobile download speeds.
How will end-user benefit from TurboNet 4G?
Vodafone Idea TurboNet 4G will offer increased capacity, turbo speed and lower latency when using data services. In other words, there will be a significant improvement in response time of data upload, downloads, streaming of video services and playing games. The customers will surely be in for a treat when they watch TV shows, movies and games. They will continue to access their favourite programs but at a faster speed through Vodafone Play and Idea Movies and TV App, Eros, Sony, Zee5, Hungama Play, T-Series, SunNXT, ShemarooMe, Hoichoi, TV Today, Discovery, Amazon Prime and Netflix.
Since the merger, Vodafone Idea has improved in terms of adding customer base. By deploying new technologies, Vodafone Idea is also trying to regain its lost territory and capture the market share from Jio and Airtel.
