Vodafone and Idea, two of the biggest players in the telecom sector, merged together last year to tackle the newest entrant in the mobile network industry, Reliance Jio. While both the companies combined garner over 20% of India’s total userbase, they individually had no chance of survival if they decided to compete directly with Jio.
In a recent turn of events, several people throughout the country have been experienced problems concerning call drops and other connectivity problems throughout the country. Thousands of frustrated users took on the social media platform Twitter to express their anger and frustration when they were unable to either pick up any voice call or access the internet.
Vodafone Network down
One of the most popular online outage detector sites, Downdetector, reported that the complaint was reported from cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Lucknow and many more. More than 61% of the total people have been experiencing some sort of connection issue while 20% report to have a complete blackout, meaning they aren’t able to access the network services, at all.
When people from all over the country called the customer care to ask what’s going on, they said there was some planned work due to which the Vodafone network might be unavailable depending on the part of the country you live in. The outrage was so bad people started trending #VodafoneDown.
If you are on the network, you might have received a voice message saying “you have called a wrong number” while trying to pick up a call. It is said that the outage started sometime from 10:30 AM. The reason behind what an outage on a national level is still unclear.
Other users have reported that they have been experiencing problems on the network since the last week with data services sometimes not working out of the blue. We hope Vodafone solves the problem soon since millions of people make use of the network.
