The extreme popularity of a good live-action fantasy’s Witcher Season 1 is something that is well known to everyone. In fact, even before its premiere, the sequel to the Polish-American fantasy drama series was announced. The makers were not mistaken in announcing announce the sequel- Witcher Season 2 release date after the adulation it received globally.

Be ready to be slightly underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time again.

The Witcher Season 2 Release Date on Netflix

Witcher 2 date got pushed initially due to an outbreak of pandemic. Later on, after the resumption of the shoot in August 2020, the production had to be halted. 4 members were diagnosed Corona positive on the sets.

The series producer Lauren S. Hissrich in a Reddit AMA said, “We don’t yet have a target launch date for season 2, past 2021.” Although the exact date of the release for The Witcher- Season 2  remains undisclosed, it is speculated to be aired in the second half of 2021 on Netflix.

With the release of the synopsis, a possible release date can land in August 2021. The same is corroborated by a report from Platige Image that all the 8 episodes of The Witcher Season 2 should be ready to air later in July 2021. 

Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, the executive producer and showrunner are in no mood of rushing the project. She does not want to compromise with the quality in terms of the storyline and screenplay.

Netflix also kept teasing Witcher fans about its release date. It sometimes gave a glimpse of sets and scripts showing the progress happening. It is also teased with the mysterious side of Geralt who plays a monster.

Now we have a confirmed timeline. Witcher Season 2 Release is happening on December 17, 2021, on Netflix. It’s also going for those big Christmas vacay numbers. The other biggies lined up for holidays are Cobra Kai Season 4, Stranger Things 4 and You Season 3.

In the meantime, you have 5 months to revisit Season 1 and read all the books. Start with those if you haven’t read them and read them in that order. The Last Wish and Sword of Destiny are two “prequel” books that are collections of short stories of Geralt and were essentially the source material for Season 1. The main book series to follow these two are

  1. Blood of Elves
  2. Time of Contempt
  3. Baptism of Fire
  4. The Tower of the Swallow
  5. The Lady of the Lake

The Witcher Season 2 trailer

Although Season 1 of the series received some negative connotations from the critics, the new trailer of this Netflix series released on Halloween is an absolute delight for the viewers comprising of certain secrets along with the addition of new monsters and beasts.

Netflix has also released a behind-the-scenes documentary called Making the Witcher, a 32-minute video for the Witcher fanclub.

The Comicbook.com has also released an official synopsis of the Season 2. It reads

“Convinced Yennefer’s life was lost at the Battle of Sodden, Geralt of Rivia brings Princess Cirilla to the safest place he knows, his childhood home of Kaer Morhen. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, he must protect the girl from something far more dangerous: the mysterious power she possesses inside.”

Witcher Season 2 cast

The Witcher Season 2 coming on Netflix on December 17!

The story of the sequel is expected to be linear in comparison to Witcher Season 1 as stated by the makers of the show. Geralt(Henry Cavill), Yennefer(Anya Chalotra), and Ciri(Freya Allan) will continue to be the focal point of the show.

They will be supported by characters Jaskier(Joey Batey), Cahir(Eamon Farren), Triss (Anna Shaffer), and Yenn’s fellow sorcerers and sorceresses. Three new witches will be joining the existing cast. Lambert, is played by Paul Bullion, and Coën, by Yasen Atour are expected to give reference to Kaer Morhen.

Witcher Season 2 recast

Actor Thue Rasmussen has dropped out of the show due to the non-availability of dates. But the good news is that the character replacement has been found. Basil Eidenbenz will play Eskel in Season 2 of The Witcher. Some scenes have been filmed for the same since the making of the show resumed in August 2020.

Witcher Season 2 Episode 1

Episode 1 begins with a family of a merchant traversing by carriage and looking for temporary accommodation in a town that is empty. The merchant when turns around finds his wife missing. To his utter shock, he finds his daughter covered in a pool of blood. This gives a hint to start a short but clever story, ” A Grain of Truth”, giving viewers an adrenaline rush.

Season 3 of The Witcher is on the docket as Netflix has given a green signal even before premiering Season 2. Renewal of season had to be done due to the mind-boggling popularity and not to forget the strong following of Henry Cavill.
