Sony’s upcoming flagship smartphone for 2024, the Xperia 1 VI is in the news again with specifications leaked or revealed prematurely on the Chinese social media platform Weibo.

Sony Xperia 1 VI specification leaks are here! Check them out
  • SoC: Snapdragon 8 Gen 3
  • Display: QHD+ (2K+), 120Hz refresh rate, OLED
  • Rear camera: 48MP+12MP+12MP variable telephoto
  • Supports 4K 120FPS shooting

The leaked specifications for Sony’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the Xperia 1 VI, don’t seem to offer any groundbreaking new features. While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, QHD+ 120Hz OLED display, and the 48MP+12MP+12MP rear camera with variable telephoto and 4K 120FPS shooting are impressive, they’re not new to Xperia devices. Recent reports also indicate that the rear camera sensor will likely remain unchanged from the Xperia 1 V.

Overall, the Xperia 1 VI appears to be a continuation of Sony’s previous models, with a focus on refining the camera’s software, particularly the auto mode. This aligns with earlier speculation that the Xperia 1 VI might be a rather “boring” model in terms of hardware, with its main improvements coming in the form of software enhancements.

The leaked information recommends that the above specs of the Xperia 1 VI will not bring major hardware innovations when compared to its predecessor, the Xperia 1 V. Instead, on analyzing the leaked specs, Sony appears to be concentrating more on enhancing the camera’s software, particularly the auto mode performance. This approach could result in improved image quality and a more user-friendly experience, even though there may not be groundbreaking hardware and new features compared to the Xperia 1 V.

Sony Xperia 1 VI Launch Date (rumored)

Sony has followed a consistent pattern when it comes to announcing its Xperia flagship models. Sony unveiled the Xperia 1 V and Xperia 1 IV in May 2023 and May 2022 respectively. However, they didn’t hit store shelves until late June in the UK and late July in the US. By strange coincidence, the last two Xperia flagship models were launched on May 11 in their respective release years.

While May 11, 2024, falls on a Saturday, it appears to be an unlikely date for an announcement. Based on the past pattern and leaks on Weibo, the Xperia 1 VI is speculated to be unveiled around mid-May 2024 with availability likely starting in June or July.

Sony Xperia 1 VI Price (rumored)

Sony’s Xperia flagship phones have often been criticized for their exorbitant prices. The Xperia 1 IV was particularly expensive at $1,600 when it was launched. After facing criticism and poor sales, Sony lowered the Xperia 1 V price to $1,399 / £1,299 / AU$2,099, which, while still expensive, was seen as a step in the right direction.

Xperia 1 III$1299$1399
Xperia 1 IV$1599$1699
Xperia 1 V$1399
Xperia 1 VI$1399 (speculated)

There’s speculation that the Xperia 1 VI could follow a similar pricing strategy, possibly even being priced lower than its predecessor, especially if certain features are removed. However, the exact Xperia 1 VI pricing details are still a mystery at this time.
