U.S.-based chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. announced the schedule of the annual Snapdragon Tech Summit for 2019. The event will begin on December 3 and will continue for three days as usual till December 5, 2019, in Maui, Hawaii in the U.S.
From the last few years, Qualcomm has been announcing the upcoming chipset for Android smartphones and this year would be no exception we guess. The company is expected to reveal details about the Snapdragon 865 chipset at the event. The chipset will compete with the recently announced Samsung Exynos 990 chipset and the HiSilicon Kirin 990 chipset that was launched a few months back with the Huawei Mate 30 series.
The Snapdragon 865 chipset is expected to power the upcoming high-end Android devices such as LG G9 ThinQ, Realme X3 Pro, Pixel 5 series, OPPO Reno flagship, Samsung Galaxy S11 series, Redmi K30 Pro, Vivo NEX smartphone, and the OnePlus 8 series.
The most unique feature of the Snapdragon 865 chipset is expected to be the integrated 5G SA+NSA modem, which would remove the need for using a separate 5G modem as earlier. However, due to the limited launch of 5G networks across the world, it is believed that Qualcomm will probably launch two variants of the Snapdragon 865 chipset – one with an integrated 4G LTE modem and the other with an integrated 5G modem.
Apart from the unveiling of the Snapdragon 865 chipset, Qualcomm is expected to announce the next version of the Snapdragon 8cx processor, which is designed for tablet-laptop hybrids and ultra-slim laptops with LTE connectivity. The chipmaker might also reveal details about the next-generation processor that it is working on for WearOS-based smartwatches. These apart, details about the upgraded version of Qualcomm’s 5G modems and other chipsets related to wireless earphones and IoT devices might also come into light at the event.
