Apple has come up with a Service Program for No Sound Issues for iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro users. In a notice posted on its site, Apple has reasoned that due to a component failure on the receiver module, the company is offering a replacement for free. However, it has been inferred that there is only a “very small percentage” of 6.1-inch iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro devices that have reported malfunction.

What is the iPhone 12 “No Sound” Issue?

Some units of iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro have complained of no sound from the earpiece while receiving a phone call. The fault speakers will be replaced free of charge by Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers. All one as to do is to make an appointment with an Apple Retail Store, Authorized Service Provider, or contact Apple Support for mail-in service.

Is my iPhone eligible for faulty earpiece speaker replacement?

As per Apple, there were few devices with manufacturing dates falling between October 2020 and April 2021 that are reported to experience ‘no sound issues’. Hence

If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro does not emit sound from the receiver when you make or receive calls, it may be eligible for service.

Devices not covered under the Earpiece Speaker Replacement Program are iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Also do keep in mind that Apple has imposed restrictions on free repair is applicable only if the device is from the original country of purchase.

For those availing Earpiece Speaker Replacement Program, it will not extend the standard warranty coverage of the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro. The program is applicable only to faulty units for 2 years after the first retail sale of the unit.

“If your iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro has any damage which impairs the ability to complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, that issue will need to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair,” Apple service plan announcement.

It is advised to a faulty speaker unit user to back up the phone’s data either to iCloud or to a computer before fixing an appointment.
