[UPDATE] Xiaomi releases stable MIUI Update 12.0.3 for Redmi Note 8 series

It has been few days since Xiaomi devs released another stable version of MIUI 12 for Redmi Note 8 Pro users. The settings after the software update read- MIUI Global 12.0.3 (QGG(EU/IN)XM) Android Version 10 QP1A.190711.020 State of security-updates: 2020-11-01. The update weighed 385MB in size with a November Android security patch.

But Redmi Note 8 Pro is one such odd model jinxed with MIUI 12 update. With MIUI Update 12.0.3, it has again run into critical problems. Earlier with MIUI 12 update, people had reported camera quality getting worse and the battery getting drained out faster.

There are reports from some users of Redmi Note 8 Pro being rendered useless after the update. The devices have stopped working completely. MIUI Update V12.0.3.0 has panicked its users with Redmi Note 8 Pro going into a cyclic reboot. The issues have been reported more for EU rollout.

After the latest Global MIUI update 12.0.3, none of the Apps can be invoked. For some users, the phone got rebooted and had to be opened by entering a SIM pin. But the restart was incomplete.

Many useful apps like e-mails, notes, were found to be missing. On opening the daily used apps, errors similar to the ones listed were thrown up. “Your phone needs to finish restarting before you can access apps” (“Vor dem Ausführen von Apps warten, bis das Gerät vollständig neugestartet ist“). To the horror of many, few folders were found to be deleted by themselves. The apps in these folders were strangely popped up on the rightmost page. If you tried to open the settings and clicking on any option, one crashed out.

There is no way to make a backup to rollback also.

I can access the phone after a correct false password input, but when I want to use anything (phone, messages, apps) it tells me to “wait until the device has fully restarted before I use this app”.

I can access the settings but I can’t do nothing in it. If i try to it just crashes and sends me back to the main screen. Same goes for the phone app

Update on bootloop issue as of 29 December

Xiaomi has made a note of the bootloop issue reported majorly by European units. The users have been asked to share system logs as inputs to devs to fix the issue. The details on how to share system logs can be accessed on the Mi Community.

How to fix Redmi Note 8 Pro issues after the latest MIUI Update 12.0.3?

Users have tried to fix the infinite reboot issue by themselves with no help from Xiaomi except for one of the mods on the forum suggesting on expected lines. It is “just factory reset for now and then report back“.

However, users have reported trying alternatives like – Reboot in both the protected mode and recovery mode, extract SIM, unsuccessfully tried to access phone via pc to secure data, and enabled USB-Debugging.

There is also an option to downgrade from MIUI 12 Android 10 to MIUI 11 Android 9 with no issues. The anti-rollback version is still available for the latest MIUI 12. It is the same as the one the device originally came with. All you need to just unlock your bootloader and use the Mi flash tool to flash the ROM. A temporary workaround can be to use Xiaomi Mi flash pro to install an older firmware version and probably a backup tool to make a backup.

Users have taken to the Mi forum and Reddit community to report the issue. As of now, users have been recommended to not install till Xiaomi devs come up with another stable build.

On Prima facie, users are worried about losing contacts, photos, and essential documents as well. At the best everyone wants a quick path to at least save the critical things which are close to heart.

Update as of 5th January

Xiaomi had earlier acknowledged the suffering of Redmi Note 8 users who had upgraded to MIUI update 12.0.3. It had confirmed a staged rollout in early January 2021. Today in an official announcement, staged rollout of version 12.0.3.0.QCOMIXM has been published.

The global rollout will also bring January 2021 Android security patch. It will bring the newer Android 10 OS, a level up from the pre-installed Android Pie. Redmi Note 8 is slated to receive MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11.

Update as of 20th January

Another stable beta build has been released by Xiaomi for the Redmi Note 8 Pro based on Android 11. MIUI 12.5 beta has the fix for the bootloop issue. It can be downloaded from the link.

The devices which had installed the defect prone MIUI 12 update will be the first ones to receive the latest version. In other words, Note 8 series running on V11.0.12.0 will have to wait fro their turn.
