Due to the COVID-19 lockdown, a lot of moviemakers are relying on streaming platforms to release their movies. However, this method of releasing movies is making it easier for pirates to get access to the films before the official release.
Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhal was the first film whose producers decided to release the movie online instead of a theatrical release. Recently, Ayushmaan Khurrana and Amitabh Bachchan starrer Gulabo Sitabo came to Prime Video and was a hit. Now, we are looking forward to the release of Keerthy Suresh’s Penguin and Vidya Balan’s Shakuntala Devi.
Amazon had plans to release Keerthy Suresh’s Penguin on Prime Video on 19th June. However, a couple of hours before the official release of Penguin, Tamil Rocker, a piracy group, released the HD version of the film online.
Piracy is not a new issue, and people have been pirating movies for years. It took at least a couple of months before new movies came to streaming platforms or on disk. So, it was hard for people to get on HD versions of the movie through illegal means.
Tamil Rockers also released Jyothika’s Ponmagal Vandhal a few hours before its official release.
We at Phoneswiki don’t promote piracy. The act of piracy is illegal and it leads to monetary loss for the people associated with the project. This article was written to create awareness about the topic. If you want to watch Penguin, then please watch it on Prime Video.
