UPDATE: OnePlus has announced OxygenOS 10.0.1 for OnePlus 7 series devices
The launch event of the OnePlus 7T series in London last Thursday did clear some air on the Android 10-backed OxygenOS update for older OnePlus devices. The update schedule provided by the Chinese OEM at the event looks completely in line with the timeline of the Android 10-backed update for HydrogenOS for Chinese devices as we have noticed earlier.
The Shenzhen-based company launched the OnePlus 7T series with Android 10 out of the box. We all have been waiting for a definite confirmation about the OxygenOS 10.0 update for older devices including OnePlus 6/6T and OnePlus 5/5T.
The waiting was quite obvious because OnePlus always fulfilled its promise of providing Android updates until two years of the launch of its devices and Android security updates until three years of the same.
Since the OnePlus 5 series was launched in 2017 and Android 10 in 2019, expectations for an update are inevitable.
Getting back to the OnePlus Android 10 update schedule provided by the company at the launch event, we see the rollout of the stable or official version of Android 10 for OnePlus 7 series is still in process. Since no specific date or month has been mentioned for the OnePlus 7 series update, it seems the company is still working on the reported bugs with the release of the stable version of Android 10 for the series to a limited number of devices in late-September.
As for OnePlus 6/6T and 5/5T, things are pretty clear now. The latest update schedule clearly mentioned that OnePlus will release the open beta of OxygenOS 10.0 for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T this month with a stable release sometime in November. While there is no question on the beta program for OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, they will straight away see the update to the stable version of OxygenOS 10.0 in the second quarter of 2020.
The OxygenOS is a customised skin of the Android operating system developed by OnePlus for exclusive use in their smartphones. The Chinese OEM has the tendency to release Android updates to their phones as fast as possible to keep pace with Google Pixel. However, the company has not revealed anything about providing the Android 10 updates for its dated models such as OnePlus 3/3T and OnePlus 2. There could be some hardware limitations in doing that.
Interestingly, at the launch event, the company has announced to introduce an Instant Translation feature in its devices that will enable real-time translations on video calls. However, the development of the program is in a preliminary stage at the moment but it might be rolled out soon.
