While users are currently enjoying the stable version of Android 10 in OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro, the owners of previous versions, OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6/6T are still loitering in the dark about the latest OS update. However, the statement can be taken with a pinch of salt. This is because the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro users are reportedly facing some technical glitches following the hefty 2GB update to the OxygenOS build of Android 10.

OnePlus 5/ 5T and OnePlus 6/ 6T Android 10 update gets delayed as OnePlus 7 series users report bugs

The release of the stable version of the global OxygenOS 10.0 to OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro seemed hasty when the Chinese OEM rolled it out in less than three weeks of Google Pixel’s update. Notably, the latest updates from the Chinese OnePlus forum revealed that the OnePlus 7 series will get its Android 10 update to HydrogenOS, the Chinese counterpart of OxygenOS, in mid-November this year

Thankfully, the latest updates from the Chinese forum also threw some light on the timeline of the OxygenOS 10.0 update for the OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6/6T. It revealed the schedule of OTA distribution of Hydrogen OS 10.0 for OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6/6T.

OnePlus Android 10 Update

The forum talks of a late-October release of the open beta version (without Google Play services) of HydrogenOS 10.0 for OnePlus 6 and 6T with a stable version expected in November 2019. The 5 and 5T users have to wait for a long time for the desired update as it is not going to happen before the second quarter of 2020.

It is very difficult to draw a roadmap for release updates of a mobile OS. However, we have seen OnePlus releasing the respective updates to OxygenOS in a short period before the release of the HydrogenOS update. Therefore, OnePlus 6 and 6T might get the OxygenOS 10.0 update very soon.

The latest OnePlus 7T launched a few days back with Android 10 out of the box. The early-October launch of OnePlus 7T Pro in London might shed further light on the OS update schedule.

Earlier in September, OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T received Android Pie-based public beta updates. The changelog of the 1651MB update suggested the update was meant to optimize system performance and prepare the device for the next big updates.

In late-September, OnePlus released the preparatory builds for OnePlus 6 (OxygenOS 9.0.9) and OnePlus 6T (OxygenOS 9.0.17) to receive the public beta of OxygenOS 10.0. Apart from readying the device for the Android 10 update, the preparatory builds intended to fix the crash issue with the screen recorder and re-activate the calling function after the network reset. Although smaller in size, the 113MB OTA update had filled the gap between Android Pie and Android 10.

The OxygenOS is a customized skin of the Android operating system developed by OnePlus for exclusive use in their smartphones. It is so popular that some users even prefer it over Google’s Stock Android. The OS build is preferred due to its user-friendly nature and inclusion of features that are not simply bloatware.

OnePlus has the tendency to release Android updates to their phones in line with Google Pixel. Other mobile OEMs such as Samsung usually take months to roll out the latest Android version to their smartphones.
