Horror comedy “Mieruko-chan” animation is coming to TV. The creator Tomoki Izumi’s announced making “Visible Child” a TV animation with a premiere timeline set for 2021. “Mieruko-chan”, the phenomenal horror manga will be produced by animation studio Passione. It is famous for its handling of horror in the famous Higurashi GOU. It is also famous for its works in Citrus, and Ishuzoku Reviewers.

The manga “Mieruko-chan” is serialized on Kadokawa’s ComicWalker website. It was launched in November 2018 with the fifth volume ready to be unveiled on 22nd March.

In Isuzi’s tweet, while commemorating the TV animation, two teasers were also unveiled. They are titled “Visible Edition” and “Invisible Edition”. The story is basically a horror slice of life. When it’s wholesome, it’s pretty cute, but when it’s scary, it is terrifying.

A Teaser PV was also shared by Kadokawa, the producer of manga with the fans on YouTube to hype the “Mieruko-chan” fever.

The animation will be directed by Yuki Ogawa, written and screenplay by Kenta Ihara, animation direction by Chikashi Kadeka, and monster design by Makoto Uno.

Izumi also sent an illustration to celebrate the animation. He announced a lottery draw for 10 people. They will receive “Gachi scary monster cushion” gifts. Izumi also announced the release date of the novel’s latest 5 volumes coming on 22nd March.

All you need to do is follow the official Twitter handle of “Mieruko-chan” (@mierukochan_PR) and retweet his campaign.

The plot summary of Mieruko-chan reads:

Miko is a typical high school student whose life turns upside down when she suddenly starts to see gruesome and hideous monsters. Despite being completely terrified, Miko carries on with her daily life, pretending not to notice the horrors that surround her. She must endure the fear in order to keep herself and her friend Hana out of danger, even if that means coming face to face with the absolute worst. Blending both comedy and horror, Mieruko-chan tells the story of a girl who tries to deal with the paranormal by acting indifferent toward it.

The title Mieruko-chan comes from the main character’s name, Miko, and the term mieruMieru literally translates to “can see” but has a deeper connotation related to invisible things becoming visible and understandable. Ko means “child” but is also used colloquially as an equivalent for “girl” and as a popular ending for female names in Japanese. So the literal translation is “girl who can see (invisible things),” which also sounds like her name, especially with the “-chan” suffix attached.
Note in Volume 1 of the Official Translation.

“Mieruko-chan” is a true horror-comedy that is funny enough to be considered as a comedy alone and terrifying enough to be considered as a horror alone. Mieruko can see ghosts but it is heavily implied that she can’t tell anyone. The story is basically about watching Mieruko-chan struggle in everyday life trying to live without acknowledging the ghosts. You might think that’s pretty easy… until you see what the ghosts look like. Also, don’t be mistaken, it also has an actual plot.

The monsters are really well done in the manga and if studio Passione does justice, you will be able to enjoy and chill at the same time. It’s going to be one of those adaptations that will make you feel manga art creepy manga art for sure. Do share with us your excitement and stay tuned for updates coming your way!
