As of today, the Chinese tech giant has started rolling out the Android TV 9.0 update for the Mi TV 4A Pro 32-inch model and the Mi TV 4C Pro 32-inch models.
While no other smart TV manufacturer has updated its lineup of smart TV’s to Android TV 9.0, Xiaomi is taking a huge step forward updating its roster and abiding with Google’s no skin policy with the latest operating system.
While Android TV 9.0 was released way back last year, no manufacturer has taken any efforts to upgrade their TVs software to Google’s latest offering. The company also confirmed that it will be eventually upgrading the non-Pro models as well. Soon, an Over the Air (OTA) update will be available on your TV if your device is either of the above.
There is absolutely no information available on what features Android TV 9.0 will be offering. That being said, we expect to see a plethora of performance and security enhancements, Autofill similar to that in Chrome, a redesigned Settings app and much more. Some UI tweaks will also work their way through now that Google has asked manufacturers not to use any skins for their user interface.
In case you cannot wait to get your hands on the OTA, trying manually checking for OTA by heading over to Settings > Device Preferences > About > System Update. Some users on Twitter said that they have already upgraded their devices to the latest version while others report that they are unable to see any new updates.
It seems like the update will be gradually rolling over so it might take a few days time before your TV asks you to upgrade to the latest version. When Xiaomi was asked why the update to Android Pie was taking so much time, they made it clear that the Mi TV 4A was based on AOSP and not the actual Android TV platform.
The developers have been working hard since then to port Android Pie to the devices since the porting process gets quite messy at times. Users have been waiting for months to try Android Pie on their Smart TV’s. The wait is almost over now since the OTA will be coming to Xiaomi Mi TV 4A Pro and 4C Pro in the upcoming days!
