Apple is offering free repair for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus devices which are facing ‘no power’ issue. These models are posing problems in switching on possibly due to a component failure. It is a manufacturing defect in an unnamed component. The free repair as informed by the tech giant is applicable only to the devices manufactured between October 2018 and August 2019. In other words only a few devices in a limited serial number range are defective.
The iPhone 6s lineup had been launched in September 2015. But the sale of models was discontinued by Apple with the release of iPhone XS and XR. But in some markets like India, the models continued to be sold. These were the first iPhones to get the 3D Touch feature.
How to check if your iPhone 6s is eligible for free repair?
If your iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus is plagued with charging issues and refuses to switch on, the first step is to find out whether you can apply for free repair. Do keep in mind that the device should have been bought between October 2018 and August 2019. If found eligible, head on to Apple’s official page and enter serial number.
If you satisfy the condition you can approach the company in 3 different ways
- Reach out to the nearest Apple Service Provider
- Set up an appointment at a Retail Store
- Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center
In case you are able to switch on your handset, then remember to back it up on iTunes or iCloud before submitting for repair. Free repair is applicable only in the case of “No Power Issues.” In case of a broken screen or any other issue, it will not be included in the free repair program and it needs to be resolved prior to the service. In some cases, there may be a cost associated with the additional repair.
Do keep in mind about an important clause from the company which says that it “may restrict or limit repair to the original country or region of purchase.” In other words, you are ineligible for free repair if you bought your device overseas.
For those who got iPhone 6s repaired at a personal cost and it is eligible for free repair, Apple has provisioned for a refund. You can contact Apple for the same. The compensation is not applicable if the iPhone was repaired at a non-authorised service centre. Free Repair program is applicable to all affected phones for two years after purchase. It means the services can be availed until 2021. But don’t assume that the standard warranty will be extended.
This is the sixth repair program of 2019 initiated by Apple. The company has already announced repair or recall programs for the old 15-inch MacBook Pro’s battery, some wall adapters, the 13-inch MacBook Pro display backlight, MacBook keyboards, and screens on the Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 3.
