The next-gen Huawei’s flagship P-series phones are all set for launch next year. Though the exact launch date is not known but Huawei CEO, Richard Yu, confirmed the launch month in an interview with the French press in Shenzhen, China. Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro phones are all set to make a debut sometime in March 2020 with the global event to be held in Paris. The launch timeline of P40 toes that of its predecessor- Huawei P30 which was also launched globally on March 26, 2019.
P-series phones have established themselves on the fronts of camera performance, processor, and design. The same was echoed by Yu when he said that P40 will boast a “never seen” design apart from other parameters for which Huawei is known for.
He also referred to Huawei P40 running on the yet to be launched Huawei’s Mobile Services. The Services will be in competition with Google Play Store and its API is likely to fetch developers. To remind you, Huawei devices don’t have Google apps and services on board due to the US-China trade war. With this development, all Huawei devices will be devoid of basic Google security and services.
The render leaks revealed by 91mobiles in collaboration with @OnLeaks show the P series from a few angles. It is not very clear whether the devices will sport a hole-punch display or not but the rear Huawei P40 rectangular camera module will have four sensors. The renders give a feeling somewhat similar to models Samsung Galaxy A51, A71 and even Vivo V17. The front display of P40 will be flat whereas P40 Pro will be a curved waterfall. The phones don’t have support for 3.5mm audio jack but there should be support for an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Huawei is known for its camera and the new launch will not be different in terms of surprise. Tianfeng International analyst Ming-Chi Guo has also given his inputs on camera specs. As per him, P40 series will create a zoom history as it will be powered by periscope telephoto lens, giving it 10x optical zoom. You can definitely expect an improvement twice the magnitude of Huawei P30 Pro’s periscope telephoto lens.
It is contemplated that P40 Pro will have 8 cameras, three front-facing and five rear cameras. The dual front-facing cameras will be of 32 megapixels and 20-megapixel configuration supported by ToF lens. You can expect a new benchmark in selfie quality if it turns out to be true. The main camera at the rear will be of 64-megapixel with a 52-megapixel wide-angle camera. Rest of the three rear cameras will have ToF lens, moving camera and periscope telephoto lens.
The Huawei P40 series will run on Android 10 with EMUI skin rather than Huawei’s new generic OS “HarmonyOS.” Huawei P40 Pro is likely to have a 5,500mAh Graphene Battery & 120Hz Display. It is rumoured to come with Kirin 990 chipset from the latest HiSilicon Kirin flagship.
Speculations are rife that recent launch Huawei model Nova 6 SE might get repackaged and will be marketed as Huawei P40 Lite.
Regarding possible launch price, Huawei P40 and Huawei P40 Pro are likely to be priced at least or a bit tad higher than their predecessor P30 series. In other words, 8GB RAM/ 128GB storage model of P40 will be priced at least EUR 799 (roughly Rs. 62,200) whereas the P40 Pro will start from EUR 999 (roughly Rs. 77,800).
Ming-Chi Guo has predicted the possible launch price in his report. As per him, Huawei P40 Pro is expected to sell in the range of $570(EUR 550 approx) – $713 (EUR 713 approx).
The final details on specs and pricing are awaited. Will keep you updated as and when they pop up. Stay tuned for them!
