The NPD has released its report for December 2019, and it gives us some insight into the gaming trends of the previous decade. One of the trends is regarding the best selling game in the US for the last decade. The records started in 2012, so we don’t have data for the years 2010 and 2011.
NPD provided a list to GameIndustry.biz reporting the top-selling games of the previous decade, and as expected, GTA V topped the list by some margin. GTA was declared the most profitable entertainment product of the decade in 2018, and as per the statistics from November 2019, GTA V has sold over 115 million copies around the globe.
As for the second and the third spots, Call of Duty: Black Ops and its sequel, Call of Duty: Black Ops II, secured them respectively. As a matter of fact, Call of Duty games took 10 out of 20 places on this list.
Another popular game from Rockstar, the studio behind GTA V, Red Dead Redemption II, managed to secure the 7th spot on this list. As per the reports, Red Dead Redemption II sold 26 million copies all over the world.
The last GTA game, GTA V, is nearly a year old, and the upcoming next generation of consoles would be a perfect opportunity for Rockstar to release GTA 6.
