UPI (Unified Payment Interface) allows transactions to be made directly from customer’s bank account using a UPI ID and a 6 digit PIN. UPI is a widely popular payment option in India with companies like Amazon and Google having their own UPI apps. Amazon announced Amazon Pay while Google started Google Pay (Tez) in India that is based on UPI transactions. Someone who opts to use UPI method doesn’t have to share his card number or bank account details with the merchant.
UPI was launched as an initiative to bring different banks and payment methods on a single platform. So far, it has been a success in India with more and more merchants signing up for UPI payment option. UPI ID is also used to transact directly between Peer to Peer for instant money transfer. Google earlier also rolled out a new material design version of Play Store for users worldwide.
