From November 22, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) started providing FASTag free of cost at all the toll plazas and RTO offices in the country that will last till December 1. Barring new toll plazas, about 550 toll plazas in the country have electronic toll collection systems. People who are frequent travellers along the national highways can approach any of these toll plazas for getting their FASTag at no charge.
Getting FASTag free of cost means there is no need to pay the security deposit of ₹150-200 while getting the 10x 5 cm Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) tag as it will be borne by NHAI. In order to get the FASTag free of cost, the vehicle owner needs to carry its identification (such as a driving license), passport size photo, and vehicle registration documents to complete the mandatory Know Your Customer (KYC) process. After registering in the FASTag system, a colour code is given for FASTags and a minimum amount is collected from the vehicle owner, which varies in the range of ₹500-800 depending on the type of vehicles.
Recently, NHAI has also requested their authorized partners via Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IMCL) to provide the FASTags free of cost to all vehicle owners till December 1. The authorized partners include 22 certified banks that include Axis Bank, IDFC First Bank, HDFC Bank, State Bank of India, ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and others as well as virtual payment system Paytm.
However, till date, only Kotak Mahindra Bank has reportedly waived the issuance fee on FASTag till December 1. The issuance fee or Tag Joining Fee is a one-time charge of ₹100. Kotak is providing the offer for both its own and non-Kotak customers.
People who are interested to get the FASTag from Kotak Mahindra Bank can apply online from here. They can follow the procedure of online application elaborated by us and get the FASTag without any hassle.
