A Quick Rundown of the Galactus Event Plus A Sneak Peek of Season 5

Fortnite’s Galactus event just wrapped up a while back and many say that it’s definitely one for the books. This event has not only concluded Season 4 and its exclusive skins in the Fortnite item shop as a whole, but it also marked the start of a brand new season.

But after the said event, the whole game was down and no one seems to know why. Well, lucky for you, we’re ready to spill the beans on what exactly went down in the Galactus event if you weren’t able to participate in it. Plus, we’ve got more details on why the game isn’t booting up for anyone.

The Start of the Show

During the start of the event, players had only one option to click on the menu: The Devourer of Worlds. This signaled the much-awaited Galactus event and what’s to come for the next season.

Galactus, also known as the Devourer of Worlds and the Lifebringer, is a cosmic entity that consumes planets to sustain his own life. Formerly a mortal man, Galactus is a god-like character that was created by renowned comic book writer and artist, Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.

But enough with the history lesson about Galactus, because it’s time to focus on the beginning of the end. Don’t forget to wear your favorite skin from the Fortnite item shop before joining the event!

Upon clicking the “The Devourer of Worlds” options, players were tasked to defend the island and save all reality. This not only marked the arrival of Galactus, but also what you and other players plus the superheroes are in for. Players were first sent to the helicarrier, a mobile command center of S.H.I.E.L.D. until the clock struck zero. This is where the fun begins!

Looming Shadows

Once the clock struck zero, a looming shadowy figure appeared above the clouds. There stood Galactus, primed, and ready to consume the world within Fortnite. After a minute or so of intimidation, Galactus announced with his echoing voice, “Beware! I hunger!”

Galactus struck first, swatting the helicarrier as if it were as insignificant as a fly on the kitchen table. Now, in normal circumstances, you would have probably died in the game, but since this is an event, Ironman was there to save you from your impending doom.

He then gives you a jetpack to fly with and states that he needs your help in stopping Galactus from consuming the Zero Point. You head on over to Galactus as fast your jetpack would let you, but it was too late. The Zero Point has already ripped off the ground and a white light flashes before your screen.

Eat This, Old Man!

Your character wakes up inside a battle bus—the one of many floating around your point of view. These buses were equipped with bombs and your job is to make Galactus eat as many bomb-equipped buses as possible. Once that’s done, you make your way to Galactus with the bus while shooting the incoming drones headed your way.

The gameplay here is similar to shoot ‘em ups, or “shmups” for short, where you blast enemies while dodging their fire at the same time. It’s refreshing to see Epic implementing this type of mechanic in a Battle Royale game, so we hope to see mixes of other genres in the upcoming seasons. Thor and Wolverine show up to assist you in getting to your destination until, finally, the time has come.

Galactus sucks in all of the busses riddled with bombs to consume them, only for him to cry out in pain once he does. The explosion was similar to consuming pop rocks, but amplified. Soon after, cracks begin to show in his body until he falls back and disappears. The camera then cuts to Jonesy, Fortnite’s mascot character, waking up from his slumber to answer the phone that’s been ringing inside the office.

No Fortnite for You

After all that, Epic took down Fortnite. This isn’t the first time that this has happened since the very first one was during the Black Hole event, but players were astonished to be greeted with a screen that says “To be continued in Season 5”. Not to worry though, as the new season is set to start on December 2 at 9 pm Pacific Time. In the meantime, you can do other stuff and come back when the game is ready.

What’s There to Come for Season 5

There’s no news yet as to what the theme will be for Season 5, but word on the street is that we could be treated to a Star Wars theme this time around. According to a leak, the Mandalorian Baby Yoda, along with other Star Wars skins, are set to be part of Season 5’s battle pass and Fortnite item shop.

We might see some pretty cool Fortnite weapons such as the lightsaber, but only time will tell what’s there to come for Fortnite. What did you think of the Galactus event and what Epic is brewing for Season 5? Let us know your thoughts by leaving a comment or two below.
