We have previously posted about the upcoming affordable iPhone model that will be technically called iPhone SE 2 but could be labeled as iPhone 9. Recent leaks from @OnLeaks and iGeeksBlog suggest that despite bearing the resemblance with the design of the iPhone 8 (such as a 4.7-inch IPS LCD Retina display and location of the power and volume buttons), the upcoming iPhone model is expected to have a lot of aspects that will make it stand apart from the first generation.
iPhone SE 2 Leaks
Firstly, iPhone SE 2 is expected to have a frosted glass finish similar to the iPhone 11 Pro instead of the glossy finish of the iPhone 8. Secondly, the phone might come up with a stainless steel frame similar to the iPhone X instead of an all-metal aluminum body of the iPhone 8. Thirdly, the imaging hardware of the single-camera lens of iPhone SE 2 would be similar to iPhone XR.
Lastly, iPhone SE 2 is expected to be powered by the A13 Bionic processor just like all the models in the iPhone 11 series. If these leaks materialize, the phone would appeal more like a unique flagship iPhone 9 instead of the budget-friendly SE.
Previous leaks suggest that Apple might actually launch two iPhone SE models – iPhone SE 2 and iPhone SE 2 Plus. iPhone SE is expected to have the usual 4.7-inch display while iPhone SE 2 Plus is expected to have a bigger 5.5–6.1 inches display.
iPhone SE could be launched anytime in 2020. Different leaks suggest different timeframes of the release. As per Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, iPhone SE 2 is expected to be released at the end of March this year. Meanwhile, the latest leaks by DigiTimes suggest that iPhone SE 2 Plus might be released at the end of 2020 or early 2021.
Including the two iPhone SE models, a total of six iPhone models are expected to launch in 2020. The other four phones would be the four variants of the flagship iPhone 12 – iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Max, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max.
