OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T devices had received the OxygenOS 9.0.10 along with the December 2019 Android security update in January 2020. Thereafter the brand had promised for the latest Android 10 update in the second quarter of 2020 for the OnePlus 5 series. It was supposed to be the last OS version update for both the models.
It was in October 2019 that the availability of Android 10 on OnePlus 5 & 5T was confirmed. Pete Lau had also reinforced that the team is working for the update on Oneplus 5 pairs. Going by the roadmap for the official release program the OS should have come anytime in Q2 2020. But the plans look vague as of now.
With the February security patch arriving in China now, it gives hint that Android 10 is further delayed for the OnePlus 5 series. China rollout always happens ahead of the rest of the world release. The next in line will be the global rollout for all the HydrogenOS-based models.
Going by the trend company follows, the pair nowadays gets only quarterly updates rather than the normal monthly updates. In other words, the Android OS update date will be pushed further and it is difficult to estimate a timeline of a stable rollout.
OnePlus 5 HydrogenOS 9.0.8 Stable Version Full Pack is expected to improve system stability, performance, and fixes to known issues. The company has not given details on the issues that were fixed.
If you are not residing in China and cannot wait for the official OTA to come to you, need not worry. The HydrogenOS 9.0.8 firmware patch can be downloaded and installed manually. Find the link to the OnePlus 5T Android 9 (HydrogenOS 9.0.8) version.
OnePlus devices come with a guarantee of 2 years of Android software updates and 3 years of Android security updates. Taking this into account, OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T will be eligible for Android Q only. The devices will not be upgraded with the Android 11 version when it releases later in 2020.
